From the day I brought it home in summer 2006.  Still looks about the same––just sliders and better tires.  Still fun.  Still gets crappy gas mileage.

Better pic of the new truck.  Now it's off to start reading up on mods...particularly the easiest suspension mods necessary to get some 285/75-16's on beadlocker wheels into the wheel wells.  Then possibly some additional exterior lighting and a compressor setup in the tool box for airing up tires.

Thanks. It is far from unmolested though; it has a 5.3 Vortec and 4 link rear suspension and 35" tires . The outside has been kept original in appearance though.

I really like Toyota's, especially the older ones before they started using aluminum blocks but unfortunately they all have one big problem, they're rust buckets! If you notice, all the good looking rust free Toyota's in this thread are all located in non-rust belt states.

I'm not trying to crap on this thread, just the opposite I'm jealous and would love to own one. I spent a few months trying to find an nice '00-02 4runner w/4 wheel drive and less then 150k and no rust but couldn't find one. Sure I could try to find one from down south and bring it up but I'd use it as a DD meaning it would eventually turn into a rust bucket too. Its a shame I tell you

I want rock sliders.  The OEM steps hang down.

I'm also going with a mild lift, 9500 Warn Ti winch and bumper (whenever they design one, no 2012 bumpers yet).

Hopefully, Shrockworks will build one this year.

I'm also looking for an 80's beater 4Runner or pickup to run the Chile Challenge next Feb.

Looks awesome.  Great equation.  I'm gonna have to steal that equation for future project planning.

Just bought this 06 for $10k.  It's only got 65k miles so I think I got a pretty good deal.  4cyl, 4x4, regular cab, and 6' bed.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do to it yet but it definitely needs some tires.  I'm considering a small lift and some 285/75-16 tires.  Other than that no plans for now.  Can't wait to pick it up on Thursday.

Mmmmmm. Beautiful. I saw a very well done Tundra today in downtown denver; it was decked out with a lift and sliders and had a very cool soft top camper. Looked like a throwback to the old FJ40 soft tops.

Thank you. I had one of the soft toppers but I destroyed it on my very first outing. They are cool and would be useful, but I found out way too late that they need modifications to stand up to heavy use.

Only pic I still have of the topper on the truck:

Great thread. Some really nice Toyotas.

I been into Toyota 4Runners since I purchased my first one in 95.  I've had three of them, none with much in the way of mods, I just never seem to have the money.

My 97 in an old photo, it currently is at 265,000 miles.  I also have a 2000 with 111,000.  Looks about the same as the 97 color wise.  .

The truck I just got rid of was a 2500 Duramax, so not as good as that but I only go about 5 miles to the ramp. I figure the boat weighs about 4300, the truck is rated to tow 6500 so...................
I wouldn't be afraid to go anywhere with it, but its not a turbo diesel  lol.
