My limited understanding about the Halo was that after a hundred round burst the supressor was considered ruined. Supposedly sustained fire is a no no. The suppressor heats up and after a certain temp. it will melt the lead in the bullet before it leaves the muzzle causing it to become unstable and leading to baffle strikes. The baffle strikes are what ruin the suppressor. The .308 isn't supposed to have as much of a problem during sustained fire because there is more lead in the bullet, and it would take too long for it to melt enough to cause instability.
I am no expert, and this is just what I remember about it. I could be wrong.

Actually what the manual says is after a 100 round burst the BARREL is considered ruined for all the reasons you stated.

oooohhhhh, very close.  when and where?  Markham Park?

another sidequestion:  ok, then why would a silencer be disallowed?

Shoot me an email: [email protected]

And suppressors, as well as all NFA items such as MGs, SBRs, etc. are only allowed at Markam on NFA night which is the second thurdays of the month IIRC.

Ya know, of all the messed up things about CA gun laws, not being able to have a suppressor is the one that bothers me the most.

I envy you guys that.

Steyr, how effective would say a 9.2mm supressor be mounted on an AR?

I'd like to get one and only one supressor if possible.

How the hell would you mount it?

Most suppressors are proprietary. This means either 3 lug or specific threads for a 9mm suppressor.

Hell the suppressors for the HK 45 Tactical and HK Mark 23 aren't even interchangable. While both are HK handguns in .45 the threads are different on both.

And a suppressor designed for 9mm isn't going to work for .223 and vice versa. You'd be better off trying to make FAL mags run in your AR-15.

If you want a suppressor for your AR then grab one made for your AR. If you want a suppressor for your 9mm then get one made for your 9mm.

Nice HALO.

What manufacturer AR is that?

And which Gem suppressor is that on the Uzi? I notice it doesn't replace the barrel nut, how does it attach?

That looks like a Mk9-K which uses a 3-lug mount.

What I was wondering. But wouldn't a 3 lug on a Uzi barrel prevent any kind of barrel change? You couldn't get the barrel nut off over the lugs.

The AR is an SP-1 RR with a gus-built large hole Colt upper, Bushmaster 14.5" 1 in 7" barrel, and 45M. I haven't fired it with the Halo yet....

Yep, MK9K 3 lug. I still can't get over how quiet it is!! I've been around a lot of cans and this one is really quiet. With FNM subsonic ammo all you can really hear is the bolt clanging away and empties hitting the ground.

It's a 3 lug barrel by TROS. It came with the barrel nut already captive. I still have the original nut with the original barrel (and several more spare parts kits in addition)

Did the BM barrel have a crush washer for the flash and did you replace it for the Halo?

It came with no suppressor at all (bare but threaded). I had a Colt A2 suppressor laying around and a peel washer, so....

I actually made an evening of replacing all the suppressors and/or washers on all my AR's.

Yeah, I think i'll call gemtech and ask about phantom flash suppressors so we can know "for sure"

I think it'd be a great thing to put on a M4 upper with a permanent flash hider. Too bad in WA you can legally own one but can't shoot it. woot!

IIRC correctly the outside diameter of a phantom is the same as a standard A2, but it is simply longer. So that means it would work, it just wouldn't thread into the coupling as far. The HK flash hider is about the same length as a phantom so it would be pretty much the same situation.

Dan you are welcome to drive to WI and shoot my .223 suppressor anytime.

Just like Steyr AUG, I went with a .223 "can" and I use it on a HK 93, AR15, and Steyr AUG 20"

I use the B&T stocks on all my HKs.  It is lighter (much lighter) and just feels better than the PDW stock.
