Esp. The space one... The Alpha/Beta fighters from Mospaeda get honorable mention as well. |
Man... that was the coolest show at the time! |
Oh yea. I forgot about that one. +1 for the whitestar! |
That wasn't SPACE 1991 - that was SHADOW IIRC - a different show altogether. It was about a earth based group that had subs, planes, tanks, and a moon base to protect Earth from UFOs. |
As far a coolness goes - any TIE fighter nothing is cooler than the roar the Twin Ion Engines As far as functionality, I definitely have to go with the X-Wing it's the most balanced |
I'd vote for the A-Wing as well, but since the X-Wing is the closest choice, I'll go for that.
I went for the X wing, it was always my favorite,
still..... Space above and Beyond had soem sweet fighters too........ I remmeber when they had to fight the chiggies and one had "abandon all hope" painted on his nose... great episodes |

The show you are referring to was called UFO.
From one of the fan sites ( http://ufoseries.com/ ) "UFO is a 1970 British science fiction television series about a secret military organization which defends the Earth from Alien invaders." "In America, ITC syndicated UFO over 136 TV stations during the 1972-73 season, two years after filming had been completed. This was not part of a network showing, although many articles at the time associate it with CBS, because it was shown on CBS stations in the largest markets of New York and Los Angeles. UFO did very well in the ratings on these two stations for the first several months. It did so well in fact that CBS was thinking about ordering a second season. As a result, Gerry Anderson and his team began pre-production on a sequel series which would take place in the year 1999. The battle with the Aliens would have escalated, and SHADO HQ would have been moved to the moon in a much larger moonbase. Models, sets, and costumes were prepared, but then the ratings began to fall and the series was cancelled. However, Gerry pitched the idea to use this pre-production work for a brand new series, which turned out to be SPACE: 1999." The "Interceptor", with the big assed torpedo in the nose, is one of my all time favorite space ships.....but all the cars, ships, planes, etc.. in that show were awesome.

I like the Star Fury for its realisim, but I love all the Ralph McQarrie ships, X-wing, Viper, Y-wing, A-wing, Buck Rogers starfighter, the only good thing about that lame show..... |
I voted for the new vipers, they are damn sexy, way a fighter should be.
But A-Wing and X-Wing are nice too coming in a close second. Third on the list would have been the Veritech Fighters from Macross and stuff (I'm a sucker for F-14 Tomcats, even if they are a clone) |
I'd have to say TIE Interceptor, hands down
Jedi Starfighter(The first ones) and the X/A Wings come in for a close second. Star Trek has nice capitol ships, but totally suck in the fighter department with the exception of the small Federation fighters seen breifly in DS9, those rock -Storm |
What's that from? |
The X-Wing destroyed the deathstar so it cannot be touched by these fighters.
I'd have to go with the Starfury, as it's far and away the most realisitc of any of the fighters on the list.
Actually, the other fighter that make take top honors for the most realisitc is the Hammer head with it's canard full of manuevering jets, and it's combination scram jet/he3-deuterium fusion engines it is very much in the realm of engineering reality by the 2050s....How they acheive FTL flight in the series, and why Marine PILOTS would double as RIFLEMEN is still beyond me. |
Its the way they imagined the technology. Their phasers and targeting computers (unlike Turbolasers) track small craft very easily. The fighters in DS9 were more out of desparation than anything else. It appears that the Jem-Hadar attack fighter, Defiant, and Bird of Prey are about as small as you can go in the Star Trek universe. Except of course when they want to make it dramatic and have a runabout take 50 shots from a Warbird. |

LOL.............that was a screwed up movie........
I thought the name of the show was "UFO" patsue |

X-Wings don't kill DeathStars, proton torpedoes do. |
You are right. What can I say . . . It was a looong time ago. |

Those are freaky! I felt like the machines were taking over when a machine in my office went bad today. |
The 'Defiant' was cool .
The Klingon 'Birds of Prey' were pretty sharp too. And whatever ship Riddick stole at the beggining of "The Chronicles of Riddick" was sweet looking too. |
I voted for the Viper, but only because the Buck Rogers ship wasn't a choice. The fighters from "Space Above and Beyond" were pretty cool too.
Wouldn't the A10 of the galaxy be those armored speeders they used in Empire Strikes Back? |
just keep em away from a guy with a Macintosh computer. I vote for the Veritechs from Macross/Robotech. |
Come on man... You gotta have pics... |
Peacekeeper Prowlers are pretty badass, as far as it goes. Nick |
