I had to attend a wedding on Saturday, with 5 hours in the car and the festivities I only got in 300 reps for the day.

5 more hours in the car today but was able to get in 700 reps to catch up and keep the 500 per day avg intact.

Anyone on this thread want to commit to doing a Murph on Memorial Day?

I've completed one the last 6 years in a row and want to keep the string going, any one else want to join the fun?

I'm no spring chicken so the rules are age appropriate-

1 mile run
100 pull ups
200 push ups
300 air squats
1 mile run

All in a weighted vest (whatever you can manage)

You can break up the exercises into sets instead of doing them all at once.  I typically do the run and then do 10 pull ups, 20 push ups, and 30 squats, rest, and repeat until done and then knock out the final mile.

My best time was 53 mins, but that was a few years back, at this point the goal is just for finish.

Anyone else want to start training up for this?

53 minutes?
I'm honestly speechless.
Damn.

So...the only real limiting factor for me saying yes is that I dont have a place to do pull-ups.  That said, in 2-1/2 months I think I can find a place (or make a rig) to do them on.

Tentatively I'm in.
I expect it to take me hours...perhaps several    but yeah....pencil me in for this.

Just got home from work and Im headed out to my workshop in the garage to make space for what will become a pull-up rack. Been meaning to build one for years....now i have an excuse . Still need to do the math to see if its cheaper to build myself or just buy one. Either way, time to start adding pull-ups to the rotation. I think my best set as an adult was 8 (so 100 is going to take some work....especially at my current weight)

In other news, this evening I have officially traded in my size 38 jeans for my size 36's....and aiming to get back down to 34 in the next few months.

@Jerryjeff

What weighted vests / plate carriers do you guys use for adding weight to exercises?

I use a typical ruck for hikes, but that isn't feasible for running, or pushups, or mich else.

What do y'all recommend?

I need to get one.  I am a FF/PM and have access to an SCBA pack which adds 33lbs.  Otherwise, I put a 50lb swing bag on my back.

Yesterday I cracked baseballs around the old former school yard. I ought to make a tee.

Younger brother got a membership at the Y. He invited me for a free day pass.
Half mile around the track, about a quarter was ran. Running sucks. Did a few squat sets of 7 with 90lbs. 30 minutes in the dry sauna because I couldn't breathe in the wet sauna. Finished with another half mile, sprinting the last lap on wibbly legs.

Just ran a mile for the first time this year...mostly just to prove I still could.  (I still can)

Walked for about a 1/4 mile to cool off afterwards, and then did a set of 50 pushups. Figured I'd start getting a taste of what. Memorial Day is going to feel like.

Based on how i feel right now....it's going to be the hardest thing I ever did

But for now...back to pushups.

To be continued.

Hope you stick around.
On 12/31 I was in the worst shape of my life.
Heavier, fatter, less endurance, and less strength than at any point ever.
I saw this thread on 1/1 and decided to do something about it.
For the last few years, up until I saw this thread, I was pretty much waiting to be diagnosed with some chronic illness because I constantly felt like crap.

Its been 2-1/2 months...all that shit is behind me....I do pushups every day, and that has ushered in better diet and other exercises. I feel better, I've lost weight, and Im excited to see how much healthier I can get.

Keep after it.

Like macro said below you, it creeps into other aspects of your life.   It helps me stay in decent shape, but once results start rolling in, I want to keep improving.  I don't have many vices, but I would live on trash food.

Good work.

I'm right there with you, the push ups and squats won't be a problem but the run, and pull ups in the vest need some work.  I need to get focused over the next 2 months and prepare, definitely have some work to do.

The pushups will be no problem at all...and the run doesn't concern me. I ran thousands of miles in my 30's and 40's...I'm out of shape now, but a couple of miles should be a thing. The squats will burn, but I think I can handle it.  My biggest obstacle by far is pull ups.  That will be my crux.

Well, my 1K week is in jeopardy…picked up Covid from my SIL after my wife and I picked her and her husband up from the airport this past weekend when they came back from their honeymoon.

Felt a little off Monday and yesterday, woke up this morning not being able to taste and sorta achy all over.

This afternoon the fever hit and I’ve been trying to snooze it off with some DayQuil in hand.

Gonna take today off, see how I feel in the morning and maybe get some reps in and try to salvage my week.
