I went to Carowinds today. A theme park on the SC/NC border. The sammich maker and I road 6 coasters.
1 Fury 325, 325feet tall and 95mph. Attached File It was smooth and had long high speed high g turns and loops. Not much lateral loads. 2 Cobra, smaller but very violent with the train running you forward and backwards. It includes an Immelmann and two loops. The backward pass had noticeably more g loads. Attached File 3 Copperhead Kind of stalls on the loops leaving you with a ton of negative gs. I wasn’t a fan. ?? though she loved it. Attached File 4 Hurler This is a classic wooden coaster. Note all the noise in the data because of the typical rattle and clack associated with wooden coasters. It also has much more lateral accelerations that isn’t in this data. Attached File 5 Afterburner This is a hanging coaster with the seating below the rails. Because it hangs you, you don’t experience and lateral accelerations. Attached File I am getting a bit old for this. We rode 6 or 7 today and feel like we got beat up. ?? My point is 20 years very few coaster got anywhere near 3g while it is common to get 3.5g and one even bumps 5g. The Fury 325 is the coaster that made the news last summer with the huge pylon crack. Did Velocicoaster 5 times in March in one day.
Probably will never be on a coaster as good as that again. Wife had to go to doctor due to what we think was the Hulk. She had vertigo for a week. May be her last coaster days. |

These days you can do 5 to 10 in one park. We have 4 more to hit on the next trip. |

Man I havent been there in years. Used to love to go. Had season passes back in 96 and 97 when I was in HS and you could still get them for $50 on opening day. I think Top Gun, which is gone now, had just opened beside Thunder road which aI think is also gone the last time I went if Im recalling correctly.

That's a cool app!
I went to Dollywood (Pigeon Forge TN) several times last year - found this in a search Wild Eagle and Big Bear Mountain were my favorites - I unfortunately never got to ride Lightning Rod as it was always down for maintenance. I went to Cedar Point lots of times as a family, haven't been in almost 10 years. I, too, prefer steel coasters... wooden coasters can be fun but tend to give me a headache from so much rattling. |

Not a coaster, but I'd like to know the g force Mission to Mars at Epcot pulls.
Sitting there, I was thinking, "Holy shit. That is a lot of gees. I'm surprised they allow this". Its not a short time like in a coaster. You're in a centrifuge, simulating launch. Started to turn my head to check on the boy and my inner ear said, "Nope. Dont do that. Wouldn't be prudent". |

View Quote yup. that was crazy. didn't really know what the ride was. sat there for the launch and then felt the G's build up and and maintain for a long time. that was way different than anything I'd ever riden before. I read that it maxes out at 2.5G's but its that sustain that is the kicker. |

The Big Apple coaster at the New York New York casino in Vegas was probably the last coaster I'll go on. I had burst blood vessels on my shoulders where the straps were.

jeez one of them was almost 5 G's? I was under the impression that the coaster industry tries to not exceed 3.

Drachen Fire is still the best coaster I've ridden but they pulled it in the 90's for being too violent.

Thankful for that little jet of airconditioning pointed at your face. The "release" as you hit "micro gravity" is a great effect. They would shut the ride down about every 10 minutes. After getting off and seeing all the people sprawled out on the benches with green faces, I pretty much surmised that they had to "clean the pods" fairly often. |

I used to be a coaster junkie.
I realize I'm in much worse shape than I used to be, but...... I've half expected a complimentary aneurysm after riding a few over the last couple years..... |

I like speed and G force, but in a smooth manner. Not throwing you back and forth and banging your head into stuff. I don’t like carnival rides for the same reason. |

Liberals are a curious mix of communism and fascism, they want to destroy you but want to use your own money to do it.

You can feel the blood in your legs. After the 5g ride I started tensing my legs and purposely breathing. My old ass felt it. When I was a kid I would laugh it off. My neck complained also. Almost 60 and I felt my age. I think the data is correct. I held on with my hands the entire time. If I had put my hands in the air it would have messed up the data and me. lol |
