They have three multiple alarm systems, two telco and a cellular but the signals aren't going anywhere because the night before you cut in and trick out the alarm system's computer to turn itself and the video recorders off twenty minutes before you walk in the door.

Yeah, someone in the risk management department is job hunting tonight.

Incidents like these are preventable, but it takes risk awareness, the cognizance of the consequences one might endure, and the fiscal discipline to mitigate said risk.

It's not the choice of the agency where the telco sends the traffic.  For it to affect such a large geographic area, chances are its upstream from any possible choice of the consumer.

somebody probably got a promotion and a bonus for saving so much money by making multiple states reliant on one single vulnerable cable. Not a bunch of wasteful redundancies.. Brilliant!

It's probably still reliant on parts of the old AT&T long lines system which is still in use, and E911 over cellular still depends on the PSTN backbone even in local areas.

Yeah what the fuck. When a "main" fiber line on SDN got cut last year our internet was back in like an hour...... there is either something more sinister at hand or the nations 911 connective system is absolute dogshit

It was probably a lineman setting a pole without a locate, or incorrect locate.

We’ve got a huge fiber line running by us that ties Denver to Chicago, or so I’ve been told.

I want there to be a TV show about a loveable criminal duo, and one of them is a thicc ass corgy even though he smokes meth, which is just confusing as hell. Anyways I'm not sure about the partner is yet, but I'm thinking a sneaky hot trash-scamp that all the dudes watching would want to bang, but KNOW it'd be problems.  Think, hot panhandler type.

I hope the have some scooby doo type adventures, but instead of unmasking poltergeists, they find scrap metal and drugs dealers ditched when they were running from cops.  "Zoiks Tiffany! it's uncut dust!"

I assumed it would have been phased out at this point, but I don't know much about telecom. I thought it was built to withstand nuclear Armageddon.

Also the comments on twitter lmao.

Big oof. Better than hitting a pipeline, but not by much. Mostly just ‘cause your truck doesn’t get torched, so at least you have something to drive all the way to your firing.
