I wear a blood sugar monitor and I accidently knocked it off when taking
off my shirt. It kept reporting that I had very low (40) blood sugar and my Doctor, who gets sent reports on my sugar, called 911 to have them check on me. Very mixed feelings: Embarrassment that I caused so much anxiety and wasted time for all involved and reassurance that others care enough about me to do what they did. I'm just not used to people caring about me. A nice new change. |

As a first responder myself let me say we are OK with showing up and not being needed. I do suggest you talk to your doctor and have them call you first next time.

Why didn't the dr call you first?

You should get a bill just because they showed up. If they treated you, that may be a different story.

I can't help but think it might have been for real. |

I would be concerned about:
A monitor that doesn't realize when it's been disconnected. A monitor that reports 40 even when it's disconnected. |

[#13]
Why wouldn’t your doc just call you to see if you responded? Seems like it would’ve been a better first step.

During the Covid bullshit my meter would be 120 then 350 then 40 then 350 and then go black. It checks every 5 minutes and I knew it wasn't going up and down that fast. I talked to Dexcom a number of times about it. Happened a few times. Finally one person I talked to told me the truth. During Covid they moved their production of the sensors from CA to AZ because they couldn't keep up with all the Covid BS in the state and were having problems making them. Nice to know. Oh but they would send me a shipping label to ship the sensor back to them to look at and determine what was wrong with the ones they were making. Similar happened to a friend that had an insulin pump going up and down up and down.

Glad they showed up. I have a friend who went into a diabetic coma and never recovered . It was 2-3 days before someone went by the house to check on him.

You're saying you get billed for a 911 call you didn't initiate, and from the way you worded it at significant cost even if you refuse transport. Sounds like the swatting equivalent of EMS to bankrupt someone. If so, your state or municipality has some outrageous policies/laws. |

I’m actually up nursing a blood sugar that my sensor read as “lo”. Kind of glad my doctor doesn’t call the amber lamps for me. Also kind of pissed I slept through the alarm a couple times. Now I’m drenched in sweat and shaky as hell.

What's even more scary for me is my brain doesn't work when I get like that. On the plus side, eating chocolate to end a low blood sugar event is kinda cool. "I'm doing this for medical reasons." |

I'm sure EMS would rather respond to a false alarm than the alternative.
I get texts from my wife's monitor thing when her sugar level is low. Thankfully I've never seen 40. Hope you're doing OK OP, and managing things well. |

Cops call for people all the time "check them out" $260 each of them. |
