I'm headed down to Dallas this Sat to look at several Maserati GranTurismos. Admittedly I know very little about Maserati other than they can be a great, fun car or a crazy-expensive nightmare to keep on the road. Going in blind is there anything particular I need to be looking at? One dealership said they would be open to putting it up on a lift so i can take a look.
General things I've read about are shocks, engine and tranny mounts, sticky buttons (not an issue) and expensive tires that need to be changed every 12-24 months depending on how you drive it. Also looking at a few Jaguar F-Types as well that seem to very very low maintenance when compared to the GranTurismo. Thanks Maserati GranTurismo Attached File Jaguar F-Type Attached File |

Will it do 185?
(Sorry, I know it's not GD, but I had to.) |

Buddy of mine tracks his Ghibli hard. So far in about 70K miles he's had to replace a power steering pump from doing donuts in a parkinglot. It cost him around $1500 at a quality import shop. Otherwise, tires and oil. Car is about 6 years old, now. They use quality components like the ZF8 transmission and the motor is a Ferrari derived V6. Dunno what the GT is packing, but if you buy used by 2 years, miss the depreciation, and have a good indy, the other Maserati's are solid options.

Someone I know has had two Maserati's and the four door has been much more useful (V6) but the convertible was a V8 and much more "fun". Both are far out of my league but I got to ride in both.
The V8 certainly _seemed_ like it would go 185 but the road wasn't good enough to try. |

Pathetic earthlings... who can save you now?

Good luck O.P.! |
Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void, without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe, anything at all, you would've hidden from it in terror.

Re the Jag, they made an F Type R that was AWD with a V8. IMO that small a car, with AWD and a supercharged 5.0 V8 would probably be damn near insane to drive.
Here's one at CarMax: fast, AWD, kinda like a GT-R IMO |

Ah, Maserati. They do sound nice... when they work.
Outside of the MC20 I don't find anything they make compelling. I'd go with an F-Type in a heartbeat here. |

OP, it looks like Maserati is still alive and kicking. I was under the impression it was kinda dying, so I must have been confused. Here's a story about the 2024 540 HP GranCabrio Trofeo release: linky ( i hope that link works, sometimes it gets wonky for stories on that site)
"One of the GranCabrio's standout features is its swift convertible action. In just 13.9 seconds, you can go from enclosed comfort to open-air exhilaration as the canvas roof smoothly retracts, even while cruising at speeds of up to 31 mph. And if unexpected rain clouds roll in, fear not! With a quick 14.1 seconds, you can close up shop and keep the interior cozy and dry. But it's not just about the mechanics style matters too. Maserati offers a range of canvas roof colors, including Blue, Dark Red, Black, and two shades of Gray, to complement the six available exterior colors, Nero Assoluto, Blu Modena, Bianco Astro, Grigio Incognito, Grigio Maratea Matte, and a new shade of Metallic Green. Inside the GranCabrio, it's all about luxury and convenience. With just a gesture on the touchscreen, you can command the roof to do your bidding. Plus, front-seat occupants will stay warm and cozy thanks to the standard neck warmer, while an optional wind stopper reduces turbulence for those up front (though it sacrifices rear-seat space). Under the hood, the GranCabrio packs a punch with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter "Nettuno" V6 engine, delivering a thrilling 542 horsepower to all four wheels via an 8-speed transmission. It may be a tad heavier than its hardtop sibling, but with a 0-62 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph, it's still a force to be reckoned with." And a linky to the menu of all current Maserati news on that site: linky |

I've always heard nightmare stories on maintenance on both brands, but never firsthand. I still don't doubt it.
Assuming you're looking at used, the V8 Grand Turismos sound amazing and some of the prices I've seen tempt me from time to time. The Jags are sweet too. GL and keep us updated. |

View Quote I've heard the same over the years. I knew one dude that commuted in a sweet AWD Maserati sedan, and he was always at work. But he was pretty well heeled, so I suspect he woulda just taken any issues to the dealer and say "fix it" without regard to cost. For all interested, here's the main Stellantis page that includes Maserati as one of their brands: linky And here's a little weirdly formatted article or blog or whatever the kids are calling it today : linky Which includes: Stellantis owns Maserati, a luxury sports car manufacturer that has to unleash its potential. In the past two years, Maserati underwent a big turnaround that brought its operating margins from below zero to 10.1%. I know GD hates Stellantis, cause they hate everything , but IMHO they can produce some absolutely over the top amazing vehicles that can be a killer value IF they let the brand fully cater to its market and IF that market is not nuts about limited collectibility. And also, since this is Arfcom, IN! before Stellantis cars are for black and ghetto people. |

Lordy I've fallen in a rabbit hole and I can't get up. Now I kinda want an AWD Maserati, now that I know it's Stellantis owned. God, my wife would KILL me if I wanted to change cars again.

Hoovie got one, said it was by far the dumbest decision he's ever made.
Great when they work, sucks when they don't. |
