It's been over 25 years since I finished one, and I am thinking of getting back into the hobby.  Back then I was still using oil paint but acrylics like Vallejo and others were gaining popularity in figure and scale model finishes.

What are you guys using for paint and brush?

I have a single Windsor and Newton series 7 brush, but most of my brushes are less expensive. Artis Opus and Monument Hobbies Bomb Wick brushes are very nice.

For paints I would recommend AK Interactive 3rd gen acrylics, Pro Acryl, and Vallejo Metal Color.

I haven't played in years.

I just used whatever Michael's or Hobby Lobby sold. I used good brushes and didn't paint better than "gaming" standards.

Thank you all.

Today I ordered two 3d printed figures from Etsy, and visited the hobby shop I haven't went in about 4 years.  I also signed up with PlanetFigure.com.  I read a few threads but not sure what to make of it yet.  I've been searching for 3d printed larger historical figures but there seems to be little to none available.  You'd think that people would be cranking them out instead of making molds and pouring hot lead or epoxy one by one.  Most I've seen are DnD fantasy types.

But let's see where this will take me.

Perry Minis make a lot of plastic historical. A bunch of my Afghans and Sudanese are hard plastic. Very good sculpts and affordable. I have these also.

3rd & 4th pics are hard plastic

What scale are you looking for? Most of what's out there is 28/32mm.  What sort of historicals are you wanting to paint? After all, 'historical' covers around four thousand years of history. That's a huge variety there.
