I got sick one time and bounced. The next night I paid my $37. Plus a huge tip for feeling like an asshole because the bartender personally covered the bill for me in order to keep me off the Wall of Shame.

I took a glass with me once from the Rainforest Cafe. We weren't 100% sure that it was supposed to be a souvenir.

But I always paid.

No, not in 33 years... except -

Once I was accused of walking out on the check,
which I payed later, but was told after that the bartender
was a scam artist.

My worst was while walking home I tipped up my mug for a swallow of beer- whoops! I took the glass back the next day.

Snuck out, as in skip on a tab?  No never.

Snuck out, as in leave without telling the other people you're with?  Yeah I did that once.  Thought it would be super funny to walk home without telling anyone.  The group I was with couldn't find me and freaked, called out the cavalry, unbeknownst to me.  They all assumed I was dead in a ditch somewhere.  By the time I made it home, there was a huge search party looking for me.

This…more less.  I got shitfaced and left with some random girl.  Woke up the next day next to a fat chick and realized I never paid my tab.  Called the bar and the lady on the other end still had my tab open.  It must happen often enough because she just laughed and said this happens all the time, thanks for calling and paying your tab.

I've never skipped on my bar tab but I have left a work happy hour without making the goodbye circuit. Sometimes a girl was involved.

No….however there was an odd thing a few years back. It wasn’t a bar but a restaurant where I had a few drinks with dinner. Wife and I got dinner, and when the check came gave them my card. Apparently their system went down and cards weren’t going through for anyone that was paying with plastic. They asked if I could pay cash which I had none on me. I told them I’d come back but the restaurant was like an hour from where I lived. I never had a chance to go back to pay and forgot about it until this thread came up.

Passed out drunk under a table once. Woke up, place was closed and I was the only one there. Hit the back emergency exit door which set off the alarm. I was 16 and long gone before the cops answered the alarm.

I was in Mexico in college and a buddy was racking up a pretty hefty tag buying shots for us and some girls. When it came time to pay, his card kept getting declined (we found out later that his bank ignored his request for travel to Mexico.). So the bartender is now asking him to “go upstairs” to get things settled.

I’m telling him that going upstairs is a bad idea. Like divine intervention, God was on our side. A fight broke out right next to us. All the bouncers and bartenders went to deal with this fight. My buddy grabbed his credit card from the bartender and bolted out door during the commotion.  The rest of us quietly slipped out and we lived to see another day.

It's been my experience that I'm shit at sneaking when I been drinking.

I've slunk out, but I paid up. Only place I left without paying was an honest mistake, and they just left it open for me. I tipped extra.

Had a bartender double my tab. I think that's the most common scam.

The next weekend my buddy and I ran up a tab about the same amount as the last weekend and "walked out on it."

We avoided that place for about a month or two afterwards.

Plenty of Irish Goodbyes.

Never skipped out on a tab, but was once asked politely to leave and had to explain upon my return that my tab wasn't paid and I'd like to settle that, but that's a different story.

Years ago I stopped in a bar late at night. Female bartender and one other girl at the other end if the bar.
Halfway through my beer, the other girl comes down and sits next to me.
She says " guess what I did today"?
I look at her and said I have no idea.
She lifts up her shirt and shows me her new nipple ring.
She wasn't bad looking and we made some small talk.
Shortly thereafter she heads to the ladies room.
The bartender comes over to me and says "If I were you, I'd stay far away from that".
I swilled my beer, put a $20 on the bar, thanked her and left.

Almost. It was a open bar for beer and wells between 7 and 9. Place was packed, bartenders were swamped so when I got one of their attention I told them what everyone around me wanted. My bosses boss wanted a long island. Next go around same thing. Third time the girl says you know you get charged for these right? My drunk ass assumed I was going to be charged for everything I ordered. Did the math, said fuck this. But I got my tab receipt just to see. It was only $24 so I paid for two long islands and two beers before the open bar time.

Different occasion same bar. My wife was doing the bachelorette thing for our soon to be sister in law. Opened a tab by giving them her debit card. Next day her card is missing so she has it turned off. I go to the store that day and my card is declined. She turned off the wrong card. The tab was paid when I went to get her never turned off card.

Never ghosted to not pay a bill.

I don't go to bars often, but buying a round of shots for the group I'm with, paying my tab, and walking out without a word is my signature move.

If you order something for yourself when you go in a business, you bought it.

If you don't settle up before you walk out the door, you stole it.

I distinctly sort of recall being "escorted" out of a college "all you can drink draft/hurricanes for $20" bar once by my feet.  As in, held upside down by a linebacker-sized bouncer and tossed into the bushes behind the place.  Lol.  I for sure got my 20 bucks worth.

Never been to a bar socially, I don't drink.  The few times I've been for work was not great because I hate being around drunks.  They're almost as useless as druggies to me (except drunks can often make it through the day without getting drunk).

Been accused of it but I didn't.  I have walked out with a schooner or two a few times (by drunk accident) and was notified.  A quick chug and hand it back was all that was needed.

Once I left because an older woman was hitting on me. My group of friends included her daughter. Very pretty Pacific Islanders with a huge brother. If I was drinking I probably couldn’t say no to a hot lady. Next time I saw him he said he was disappointed and I should’ve went home with her. Guess I could’ve had a stepson my age the size of the rock.

I've been asked to leave a few and other times just had to go because of friends, which has left me with a pretty long list of souvenir glasses of beer. I used to have a peacoat that I wore in NY that had a pocket in which perfectly fit a pint glass.

Only time I haven't paid a tab is when I wasn't given an option on whether or not I was leaving.

This. Except that it wasn't too polite as the police had my arms behind my back. I wasn't in cuffs, just being escorted out.

I went back a little bit later and paid my tab. One of the bartenders was a good friend of mine and I didn't want to do that to him. So I paid him double my tab (which he tried to argue, but I insisted he take it), then calmly walked back out to my car and drove home (not drunk, had only had about 3 drinks over the course of 4 hours).

My local bar still keeps open tabs. You can pay next time you come in or on payday.

It’s great if you’re in a rush. No waiting to close out. Just leave and settle up next time

I had a reputation for just deciding I was done for the night and leaving. My friends would realize I was gone, simply send me a text message saying to have a good night and call me a few names, and carry on without me.

More than a few times, they thought I'd dipped out when I was actually taking a piss, getting a refill, or taking a phone call, and I'd come back to the group with some choice words regarding their lack of faith in me.

But I always paid before leaving.
