They're missing the North part of NATO. But then again Taiwan is missing the Atlantic part, and some people want them in. They'll need to start adding letters to nato as it bloats like a deer that has gotten hit by a car, make it NATOGBTQI+ or something

Fuck them, that ain’t the North Atlantic. Upside, it would mean they forever forsake a claim to the Falklands… they would never take on a NATO ally.

I think he sees where his economy is going and is desperately trying to get mo munny without printing it himself. He'd rather all the NATO countries print it for him. I could be wrong. But I doubt it. |

Some of you guys seem confused about what Argentina is asking for.
They are NOT asking to be a NATO member. They are asking to be a NATO partner. Those are completely different things. NATO membership means you are part of the treaty, can invoke Article 5, and can expect the other NATO nations to defend you if you are attacked. Partners have no such rights or expectations, and can mean a little as some communication and coordination, or occasional joint training, etc.. From NATO's own page: Partnership in practice: how NATO works with partners NATO's partnership objectives are taken forward through a wide variety of means. Broadly speaking, NATO opens up parts of its processes, procedures and structures to the participation of partners, allowing partners to make concrete contributions through channels that are normally only used by members. In addition, NATO has developed a range of partnership tools and mechanisms to support cooperation with partner countries through a mix of policies, programmes, action plans and other arrangements. In some cases, special programmes have been created to assist and engage partners on their specific needs. In cooperating with NATO, partners can: - share insights on areas of common interest or concern through political consultations and intelligence-sharing; - gain access to advice and support as they reform and strengthen defence institutions and capacities; ---this includes activity areas like integrating gender perspectives into security and defence, and fighting against corruption in the defence sector; - participate in a rich menu of education, training and consultation events (approximately 1,400 events a year are open to partners through a Partnership Cooperation Menu); - prepare together for future operations and missions by participating in exercises and training; - contribute to current NATO-led operations and missions; - share lessons learned from past operations and develop policy for the future; - work together with Allies on research and capability development, including through joint scientific projects; and - enhance efforts to control or destroy arms, ammunition and unexploded ordnance. View Quote Some of the other Partners that already exist (in various different partnership programs within NATO) are: Pakistan, Colombia, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Tunisia, Israel, New Zealand, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan ... and lots of others This is not really news, or even particularly interesting. |

What is all this "sweet, sweet NATO cheese" and "mo munny" that you are talking about? If Argentina actually WAS applying for full membership (which they are not), it would COST them money, since they would have to vastly increase their military spending to reach NATO goals. I could be wrong. But I doubt it. You are wrong. |

It would help keep China out.
It would drive Chile to join, which would help even more. It might irritate the brits. But Falklands weren't covered by the charter (neither is Hawaii, technically). |

LOL, no.
Aside from their stupid claims to the Falklands, they have ongoing border disputes with Chile. Forging stronger ties within the Americas, and with Argentina in particular, is in the best interests of the US ... but Argentina has no business in NATO, ignoring the not so minor fact that it is wildly outside of charter. |
