I just bought this for $300. Seems intact so far. Gears and levers all look good. I'm too tired to comment too much this evening.
Lol! Carroll Jamieson Machine Tool Company 15x40 Apparently 1936 to 1937. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

I'm considering full strength Crud Cutter and a stiff nylon brush to clean the 80+ years of crud.

Doing a 1919 Rhodes 7 inch shaper now. Mineral spirits are pretty much all I use. Works great and gets in under loose paint flakes to help lift them when when scrubbing with a brush. |

I want to get the chuck back plate unscrewed and she is TIGHT! I'm sure it has been on there a long time. It isn't rusted on. Probably had a lot of torque over a long time.
This is my no hammering solution. I'm heating the backing plate and letting it cool over and over with a constant torque of around 1000 ft lbs. Attached File |

A needle scaler works well. This is my old Hendy lathe. Built the same year as I was! The bed was reground and VFD drive installed. The original drive was a DC Thyratron tube power supply. It became unreliable and would let the magic smoke out at random times.

Updates:
The 3 jaw chuck doesn't have outside jaws so it would be very limiting. I decided to go 4 jaw. Found a 12" 4 jaw local that had a lot of dings and dents in the body, but the jaws, screws, and slots are brand new. $120. USA made Cushman. Attached File No adapter plate is available for a 2 3/8-8 spindle.....I have to make one. Cost me $93 shipped to get a 6.75" diameter x 3" long piece of 1045. I'll saw an inch off to reduce the chip pile. Lol. I need to make a gauge to test fit the threads so I ordered a 2-3" thread micrometer to make the process easier. I need the big lathe to make the backing plate for the big lathe. The vfd won't be here until mid next week. |

VFD is waiting for me at home. I just have to get from Dallas to Nashville to Cleveland to home and then I can hook it up and try it out!

This 8" Buck with 2 pice jaws was $50. Attached File |

The Huanyang GT inverter is working great. I just have it on a cord and plug right now. I'll add a switch soon.
The old girl is pretty noisy. One of the gears has a wobbly bushing, so that is on the agenda today. With proper clearance she should quiet down nicely. Attached File The forward feed gear is pretty worn so I'm hoping to switch it with the reverse gear for now. I trued the spindle nose shoulder a bit too. Now I have to true the chuck adapter on my 3 jaw. Lots of work today. |

She is grumpy and noisy but she is cutting really nicely. She is rigid enough that the radius tool cut extremely well. I can produce nice deep chamfers with a 90⁰ tool. This is a chuck adapter for the 12" 4 jaw I bought for the old girl. Still in process. Attached File |

Is the spindle a plain bearing design or rolling element?
