I guess my pick for a new 1911 under $1k, I'd be looking for a Ruger SR1911 or possibly something from Springfield.

I would buy, and in fact intend to buy, a SDS imports Raider.
I don't even like 1911s, and after messing with one I want....need...it... |
|
People will scoff but my Citadel 1911 was very reliable. Like $600

Quoted: Yup, I have been shooting the shit out of 1911's for almost 20 years now and all of my guns run 100%, even a 2017 MFG Kimber I have. These guys that claim the platform is so hard to keep up and maintain Shoot 300-500 rnds, wipe down, relube, continue on. Clean out extractor channel every 1k rounds or so +/-. Tough stuff. View Quote I agree with this too, weirdly enough. My 1911s don't get a ton of maintenance. Just a lot of lube. It's that if something goes wrong, its a relatively intensive process to replace it, relative to other guns. |

Quoted: BS, I’ve shot plenty of fancy smithed or custom shop 1911s that were too tight and unreliable. You’re being an elitist, both high and low end 1911s can be turds. View Quote I've certainly seen bad higher end 1911s, but with 1911s there is a sweet spot for cost and reliability, that lies somewhere around the $2-3,000 mark. I also specifically mentioned inexpensive 1911s that work. I think RIA usually makes okay stuff, Tisas has a good reputation, MAC 1911s seem okay, I recommended the Springfield Garrison. I'm not being elitist about anything. |

The latter being too spooky for me. |

I love 1911s, and carry them often. However I find the High Power to be a better gun for me.

Maybe it was the Serpa paddle holster that pulled the gun away from my body and left a 4" gap, maybe it was the 45+ ounces of the SA Stainless Milspec, or maybe it was all the door frame smacking....but carrying the 1911 only lasted a day!
I'm going to be focusing on my upcoming pocket gun replacement purchase for now. But I appreciate all the replies and certainly have learned of some great options to consider for when I get the 1911 itch again. |

I use a DeSantis Cozy Partner IWB for 1911 carry. It works well and is comfortable.

Serpa...LOL...
If you want a basic OWB plastic holster at least get a Safariland. If you want to carry OWB and have it tucked in close to your body you want a slide type holster, every maker has something like this but they're not all good. You really need a good OWB and IWB, both in leather, to figure out how to carry a 1911 properly. Personally, weight aside, it carries just as easily or better than a g19 for me. |

The most comfortable and easy to conceal for me are the pancake types made by TT Gun Leather and Warbird Gun Leather. Both are well worth the cost. I carried a Commander LW for a decade or so and currently carry a Colt Defender in a TT Gun Leather pancake on a Beltman belt and it's extremely comfortable and disappears under a T shirt. |

IWB is a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2. There are a bunch of other smaller makers that ar doing big things. Take a look at Ryan Grizzle. FWIW I am a smaller than average guy and only carry government model 1911s and they are plenty concealable. |

For me, the scary thing about buying an expensive 1911 would be if it malfunctioned, out of the box with good ammo. I would have no confidence in it for self-defense; it's just a target pistol as far as I'm concerned.
I watched a popular you tuber have his new Dan Wesson Guardian malfunction repeatedly with the slide not locking back on an empty magazine, of any brand. The problem was solved with the installation of a Wilson Combat slide stop. I did that with a Springfield 1911 but that one cost half what the Dan Wesson did. I can understand why someone wouldn't want to spend more than a Grand on a 1911, and I like them. |

I have not owned a Tisas but based on the mostly stellar reviews I'd start there.
I'd also go with an alloy frame. I tried to EDC a Gov't., then I went to a steel framed Officer's. Both were too heavy. |
