Looking to build a coffee table (not really a wood worker so it's something super basic) using these plans but would like to resize it to better fit my couch. Could anyone help me with how to get the right amount supplies and help make the right cuts?
I would like to make it 18" tall by 56" long. Same width. https://cherishedbliss.com/industrial-farmhouse-coffee-table-free-plans/ Sorry if this sounds super newb but honestly didn't know how else to phrase this.

Make the 16.5 inch long legs 18 inches long. Change the long members from 37 inches to 53 inches. The boards for the top are 56 inches long.
Build two. The first one is to learn how, the second will be nicer and for the house. |

Building tip - Don't attempt to make the top boards to the finished length (auto correct stuck "lol length" in there; prescient or scary?), or even exactly the same length. Get the top glued up, put the top on the base, mark the trim length at both ends, then trim to length. This way the top will fit and the ends will be straight. |

Lay out the total length of the 2X2 parts, then buy enough 6 foot to 10 foot stock to cut the parts out. Use the same number of top boards in the material list, but buy 6 foot, or 12 foot lengths to reduce the number of boards bought if there is no transport problem. You might as well start getting experience now. Make a copy of the prints with the dimensions. Cross out the old dimensions and write in the new dimensions for each part. Then start adding lengths to sort out the length of the stock you'll need. The materials list is a hint and you might be able to simply change the lengths of the 2X2 stock without changing the number of pieces bought. Maybe not, you should attempt to minimize the waste, but for this project you'll want to have plenty of stock to allow for saw kerfs and mismeasured parts. |
