Received these from my wife's Grandfather today, he's very well known in the metal detecting community and has written several books.  This is a non dug Federal plate set consisting of a Breast Plate(round), a Cartridge Box Plate, and a Belt Buckle.

Apologies for the potato pics

I have seen a lot of reproductions. It's really nice to see originals in such good shape!

So much history still in the ground.

He has several 5 gallon buckets full of plates and officer spoon plates.  This man has things in his collection many museums don't have.  Sad part is nobody on her side of the family cares about any of this stuff, I'm the only one who knows what any of it is.  He has stuff from pre Revolution to WWII.

ETA: I have repros on my cartridge box and belt, may get another set and swap for originals, the rifles I shoot with them are original(except wear parts like nipples, springs, etc., 1853 Tower 1861 and 1858 artillery carbine RT Pritchett 1859).  The repros are very different in weight and construction.

Let him know you're interested in the stuff from a historical stand-point.  Pretty cool gift!

He knows, he's given me lots of this stuff over 12 years.  I have knowledge of Hardee's and equipment of that era
