According to the reports Disney paid 4 Billion for the franchise. It then spent 2.1 billion (6.1 total) to have a total earnings, not profit just the total receipts, of 2.8 Billion.
Talk about shitting the bed. |

What the hell does the last line of the article mean by this?
The films have rediscovered the magic formula to appeal to fans but aren't yet a force to be reckoned with for investors. Not a lot of fans are liking the new Star Wars and many of their supporters are simply saying they love Star Wars without mentioning how terrible are the recent products |

Buying "Star Wars" was still MASSIVELY profitable for Disney. The article is only taking into account box office receipts, saying just that by itself wasn't enough to cover the cost of buying Lucasfilm. Fair. However, that doesn't include all the revenue from other things like merchandising, etc.
