So I've had these BN train cars & locomotive since 1986 or 87 I think. I bought them back when I was thinking of getting into model railroading. Didn't do anything with em and they've been sitting in boxes since. I wanted to display em and thought I would practice some model diorama skills as well. Everything is scratch built except for the small pine trees by the shack.

that's a great start!  Look at Scenic Express supertree leaves. (watch some youtube videos)
You spray your existing trees with hairspray, and then lightly sprinkle the leaves overtop. They can make a huge difference.

Interesting. I bought the O scale locomotive and caboose of the Spirit of ‘76 HO I had as a kid. My plan is to just do a wall mounted display shelf for them.

Try to add some dark color to the rails.  If you use an acrylic, find something you like between dark gray and a little bit brown/rusty. (you can use those craft paints at Walmart that are $2.50 each)
Thin the paint slightly and apply to the side of the rail with a small brush, not letting it get all over the ballast.
Take it slow, and add a little at a time. You can always make a 2nd or 4rd pass, or however many you need.

Ahh that's good advice thanks! I watch a few YT channels of model RR guys and they make it look easy but it takes some real skill and years of practice I think. I was kind of rushing cause this is just one of many projects I have in the backup that I wanted to get done.

@EvoXGunner

I like your set up, and have always been amazed
by toy train creations.

I used to sell them in a toy store at my first
paycheck job.  I had to memorize all the scales,
gauges, and manufacturers.  I've forgotten a lot
of details since then.

Sadly, we had to lock up the small scales, even
back in the '80s.

Please post more pics if you expand this project!

Hey thanks bro. I think this is gonna be a one off for a while. I like HO model RR but don't really want to kick down a grip of  $$$ for another new hobby. I'm stacked pretty deep in the RC realm and actually trying to offload some stuff lol.
