Whether you're rural (like me) or city/suburbs, do you hear shots from your home?

Yep, all the time. Just on the fringe of rural.

I'm in a city and never hear gunshots. It's not like the movies unless you're living in a really bad area like parts of Detroit, Baltimore, etc..

My younger brother lives a few miles from an outdoor gun range (rifles and shotguns) and you can hear that clearly.

I've got a couple coworkers that would disagree with you.

Yeah, I'm surrounded by ranch land, I'm good out to around 300 yards off my back porch and there's a range about 3-4 miles from the house that I can hear on a clear day when the wind isn't blowing.

Rural, neighbors occasionally, last heard about a week ago.

Including one time when one of the neighbors mag dumped what sounded like an AR into another neighbors shipping container over a dispute about a dead goat.

Yeah, every once in a while depending on what time of year.  I don't particularly care unless it's well after dark, that's usually not a great thing.

Neighbors just down the street shoot pretty often.  Unfortunately my lot is situated in a way that i have no safe direction to shoot.

I'm in the 'burbs. I hear them daily from the surrounding homes that have acreage. It tortures me.

I made sure I moved far enough out in the sticks that we could shoot when we wanted.

I regularly hear automatic fire from different directions.

Only from the opposite side of the freeway.

Which is two blocks to the north.

Are they gun people that recognize a gun shot? A lot of noises in cities can sound like gun shots.

I've had friends over that are non-gun people and they assume everything is a gun shot. From a car backfiring, college kids lighting firecrackers, someone slamming a dumpster lid, etc..

Just the other day I walking my dogs and a friend was convinced someone nearby had a machine gun.

I then explained what an anti-lag system was on a turbo car. 30 seconds later a lowered WRX drives by popping away.

Yes, I have a 25,50,100 yards off my back deck.  Most of the neighbors here also have some sort of range on their place.  Plus there is a public outdoor range about three miles from me.  I can hear them if the conditions are right!
Nice living in the country!!!!

I hear artillery regularly.

Does that count?

We've always heard gunfire from our home, but context matters.

Our first "starter" house was in the ghett. We heard gunfire regularly and wen we did, it was criminals doing criminal shit.

We later got a house more out in the country and now when we hear gunfire, it's simply the sound of freedom.

Yes, our private range is less than one mile away. 0900-dark.

I can shoot a pebble in a sling shot to an indoor gun range from my house.   It's a nice place.

I live about 15 miles from a government facility that houses a Navy Seal Team and those guys practice in what I call my “backyard”.  So I will hear some serious gunfire from time to time.  The land is also the largest freshwater preserve in the country and many hunters out there.

Opening day of teal season is crazy.

Sometimes.
There is a Public Range a some miles away.
Occasionally, during the buildup to Hunting season a hunter using an Unusually large caliber rifle might be heard.
It's rare, but it happens

Two Marine Attack Helicopters flew over me while walking my dog today too.

Not every day, but certainly not uncommon. Some days more than others. And if the eagles or Phillies are in the playoffs stuff is going to blow up. Sounds like a skirmish when they score

This, older but quite snd uneventful neighborhood and only time you hear gun shots is New Years and 4th of July intermixed with mostly fireworks.

Yeah… I was about 2 miles on the other side of a small mountain range that was blm land. Then 3 or 4 years ago, blm then posted no more shooting after some pregnant chick in a group shooting, got killed by a ricochet. But we all knew it was coming, not only trash, but shooting power transformers on power lines, etc.

Now I’ve got to go about ten miles to another mountain range

My youngest…

Sorta. There’s a gun range several miles away, but close enough where you can make out some shots in the distance.

So it’s not hood shots and it’s not hillbillies. Well, at least not at their homes.

We hear cannons and machine guns occasionally, they hold this not to far from us:

Depends on the time of year. Duck/goose/pheasant season I hear a ton of gunfire because there are a bunch of bomb ass hunting spots right on the outside of town, and town is only like 1 mile across

Yup. Rural western Colorado. I live close to a range and BLM. It’s fairly common.
