First time?

Mine was a pre-A1 M16, likely stolen from the USAF by her late brother.
No papers.
Wish I could have had it.
No, I didn't dime her out.

Neat! What happens next? Is there any possible ending other than ATF puts it in the crusher?

You're still in illegal possession of the receiver until you destroy it. I guess you could buy the parts and make her keep the receiver.

Not a good position and risk to take for a gun store that already has a target on it back. I guess if you were just a customer who walked in and no one knew. But still..lot of risk to have anything to do with that receiver.

If he cuts it up to ATF standards he is good to go, but he will have destroyed something beautiful.

Someone failed to let a buddy know to take the guns and didn’t inform the wife of the true value.

It very well could be, I was just there to pick up a transfer and had to get back to work. I’m sure I’ll find out more soon.

We had an old timer bring in a live STG-45 in pretty clean shape. We explained to him that we couldn't touch it, and discussed his options. Poor old chap just wanted to sell it and couldn't understand what the issue was.

Perhaps my most interesting encounter was the lady that wanted us to take some "explosives" her former renter (SEAL from Coronado) had left in her apartment. I suggested she call the fire department and have them remove it. She didn't want to do that, and insisted on driving it over to our shop.

I told her to leave it in the trunk, and I would help her. It turned out to be mostly dummy ordnance - mostly.

Do you know for a fact if it was a post sample or unregistered?

If it was a transferable, the proper thing to do would have been to have it go to her on form 5 if it wasn’t on a trust, then form 4 it to the store or any SOT.

You can cut it up, and you might as well draw $100K from the bank and light it on fire.

Also if she just came in and dumped a bunch of guns on the store and left  without providing contact info/identification, your store could still get in trouble over title I items if the ATF audits your acquisitions/dispositions books and determines not enough info was documented on her transfers to the store.

Neat

What's up with those rifle stocks on the lower story of the cart? Was this guy like 5 feet tall or is there some distortion?

Fair enough, though there are a lot of FFLs/SOTs who don’t know what they are doing.

Possible but probably unlikely especially considering the rest of his collection. Doesn't look like the sort of guns that go with a registered M60 if that is the total of his collection.

But yes possible.
