Impressive.

I guess the beauty of being a civilian is I don’t ever have to worry about holding someone at gunpoint like this. If I’m legal to draw, I’m legal to shoot. I’m fast, but I’m not going to bet my life that I’m faster than some bad guy.

Should have shot him when he had the chance

That's about my time (on a good day!) for ONE shot COM from concealment @ 7 yards.

If you watch closely you can see the cable that pulled yellow sweater back after being shot. Why ruin a good shot of the shooter with that little detail?

Immediately after gunning down Nicky, Armstrong ejects the magazine of his pistol, racks the slide to clear the chamber, squeezes the trigger to lower the hammer, and places the pistol on Nicky's body. The unloading of the pistol has since been discussed a lot. Actor Zubiena stated in a Combat Handgun interview from 1986 that "since there were no fingerprints on the gun, as soon as I'd gotten rid of it there would no longer be any physical evidence to connect me with the crime   the reason I put the gun on his chest wasn't for any tactical reason or as some kind of calling card, but because the director told me to." That makes sense, but does not explain the unloading. Years later he stated that his intention was to prevent it from being used against him. However, the "unload, show clear, hammer down" sequence looks suspiciously like ingrained behaviour from endless repetition in IPSC training and matches   one of those things that distinguishes IPSC from combat shooting (Tactical Shooting, p. 49). After ejecting the magazine and the chambered round, he would not have needed to lower the hammer. Intentional or accidental, the scene's shooting shows perfect form.

Concur.

Hated to nit-pick but that has always bothered me ever since I saw it first time on TV with rabbit ears.

Still, (I hate the term) but it is the iconic scene of its type!

Great scene.

Interesting side note: The pyrotechnics they used for the limo windows blowing out caused a bunch of big windows to shatter in the surrounding buildings. It got pretty expensive.

I know that area and grew up in Miami watching the series.

If he had access to the car, wouldn’t it have been simpler to rig it to explode?

Great scene though.   The one by which all others are measured.

It ain't a real "Mozambique" without the one to the head.

Michael Mann has always tried to be "On It" with the firearm action in his crime movies.

I could be wrong but I don’t think DNA tech was that far along in the ‘80s, and could they even lift a print from the inside of a glove back then?

I don't think DNA tech was anywhere the miracles it provides now compared to the crude early abilities it was back then, but taking a finger print off the interior of a rubber glove certainly wouldn't be rocket science.

Use tweezer to turn glove - fingers inside out - take prints.  Moisture Body oil should give a decent set of prints, but they may not all be "perfect" (perhaps some are smudged but it would also give many other points of comparison for the hand (including the palms).

Maybe the gloves were so his hands wouldn't show firearms residue?  But then I think that residue from firing would also be on his clothing too so ...

Best thing would have been for hit dude to disappear those gloves in a furnace or fire ASAP.

The "How Effective was DNA in the 80's" question was bugging me, so I just did some research on DNA forensics.

"The methods for producing a DNA profile were developed by Alec Jeffreys and his team in 1985. Jefferys discovered that an unknown sample of DNA such as blood, hair, saliva, or semen could be analyzed and a unique DNA pattern/profile could be developed. A year after his discovery, Jefferys was asked to use his new found DNA analysis to convict a man that police believed was responsible for 2 rape murders. Jefferys proved that the man was innocent using DNA from the crime scene."  So apparently the first DNA Forensic case was in 1986.

I think it has taken a long time for DNA science & forensics to get to the point we can use & match DNA samples from minor contact instead of significant body fluids.

Anyway, it remains one hell of a draw & Mozambique for some great TV watching.
