So yea, not really used to asking for PC help, I usually figure it out.

I've got a several year old Dell tower that I think was zapped.
My thought/hope is, maybe I can pull the drive out of it and put it in one of those things to make it an external HD and maybe I can link it to another PC/Laptop and recover some files like excel, word and a few pics????

Any tips/Links on what I should look at to put the HD in or hook it to, too hook it to another PC?

If there was a power surge from a lightning strike or something, chance it just smoked the power supply and swapping a new on of those will get it going again.

x2 on getting another power supply.  Hopefully it's a standard ATX style that you can buy another one for $20-40.  If that's not it, look for a SATA (assuming it's a SATA drive) to USB adapter.  They're all over the place on Newegg, Amazon, eBay.  If it's an M.2 drive, you can also get adapters for those to connect them via USB.

Even if you replace the power supply and it turns back on, don't expect it to last. I had two desktops and a server get damaged in a lightning strike. I managed to get them back running but they never were stable. I ended up rebuilding all of them with the insurance money.

Agree that a new power supply may get it back, but in the meantime if you want to try and secure the info, just pick up one of these gadgets:
