My Dad got remarried and now lives in Western Massachusetts.  I remember going to visit and seeing all the signs for lexington and concorde exits off the highway when traveling to his house from the airport.

I didnt get a chance to go visit on that trip but hopefully will next time.

I do remember being depressed thinking about the current state of Massachusetts gun laws and the fact that The start of the American revolution directly involved the British coming to take colonist Arms.

They were great men.  Unfortunately today, the population of Lexington and Concord is a sad reflection of those who fought for freedom to create this great country. They are all ultra liberal (as is most of the Northeast) and have little regard for the Constitution and the original founding principles.

Living in the area, ask me how I know.

We are the epicenter of gun control.  Many are opposed to the offensive Minuteman Statue in Concord.

I feel your pain. When I visited years ago, the vibe seemed to be mild embarrassment for having this piece of violent history take place there.

The signage and advertisement of the battlefield’s was minimal.

Would “bloody corner” day be today or tomorrow (I think it was 20 April, can’t remember)?

Fuck yeah for L-shaped ambush.  Fuck the 4th King’s Own.

Here's an "unhindged TED Talk" about him
Angry Old Veteran vs. 700 Redcoats - Samuel Whittemore

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
  Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
  And fired the shot heard round the world.

The foe long since in silence slept;
  Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
  Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.

On this green bank, by this soft stream,
  We set today a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
  When, like our sires, our sons are gone.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare
  To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
  The shaft we raise to them and thee.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

fast forward to April 2024 and the British foreign minister is in the US begging to fund a war effort. This time it's not the french. Now the speaker of the house has coincidentally rolled over and agreed to hand over the funds. No tea party or tar and feathering occurred.

Not that RI is much better from a liberty point of view, but last year I was in MA just before Independence Day and there were electronic signs over the highways warning that possession of fireworks was a crime. I wondered how many actually understood the irony.

On the bright side, I learned a lot of the history of that day when I attended an Appleseed event. Those men were the epitome of courage

Went in a northern New Hampshire gun shop this morning and the dude was playing all sorts of music relating to tree of liberty and freedom and stuff.

Thought it was cool.

I spent some money.

Sadly no.  I'm not into black powder firearms. If I were to show up open carrying an AR I would be quickly arrested. Massachusetts is no longer a free state.

I have a similar picture hanging on the wall, taken about 30 years ago. I really should take some time and revisit the bridge. As with all historical sites, they mostly only draw tourists.  Locals become numb to their significance as they drive by daily running errands.

Yeah, locals never appreciate that stuff. When I was a kid growing up in Jersey, I’d watch The Price is Right on a sick day and be amazed when people would get excited about a trip to New York City.
