I have a Honda Element with the K24 engine. It has a slight oil leak from the VTEC spool valve. I tried replacing the gasket (OEM) that goes between the spool valve and the head since that's the most common fix but that didn't seem to help.

Is there something else on/in the spool valve that can leak and that's serviceable? I can buy a new OEM spool valve but trying to save that for the last option since it's about $150.

The valve cover is not leaking and the spool valve is the next highest item that can leak.

Clean the engine and put some UV/fluorescent dye in the engine. Run it a bit and check with a UV/black light. That should give you a better idea where it is leaking from.

First there is absolutely nothing on that valve that needs Honda bond.

There is a switch on top that is sealed with an oring.

Instead of using florescent dye, use spray-on foot powder to trace the oil leak.
The powder will easily show up where the leak is, it's cheap, and you can also use it on your feet.
If you want to be a big spender, use Dr. Scholl's.  If not, generic will work.

Thanks for the response.

And to all of those suggesting Honda bond. I don't think this gasket requires it unlike the valve cover.

I didn't realize there was another oring. I'll check that out next.

Look closely at the front cover, it tends to be the area that leaks and kind of presents it’s self as a vtec sensor leak, I am currently replacing the front seal on my k20 motor after chasing a vtec leak.
