If you don't do vigorous cardio, do it.
Otherwise, if you're not overweight, you probably are one of those people with unlucky genetics, and will need meds. |
Inactivity, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, sodium...
Diabetes, sleep apnea, kidney issues, stress... ETA: Did you actually sit down and rest for 5 minutes before taking that reading? Your pulse is quite high. |
Caffeine can also cause high spikes, had a blood vessel rupture in my eye because of high BP. Don't fuck around with numbers that high.
You are gonna cause damage to your kidneys and have a risk of a hemorrhagic stroke if you stay that high for a while. I would go to the ER and get it down. That’s pretty high. Your weight seems ok, you can’t run from genetics. BP pills are cheap.
At that level I’d try meds.
Then I’d go HARD on keto. Avoid all carbs. Give it six months. Then try to walk back the meds. |
That is WAY too high.
If that is what you normally see, then you need medical help soon! Insurance or not, go see your doc and get a BP med prescription figured out. Once you have your BP under control with meds, then you can work on why it's high in the first place and perhaps get it down where it belongs without meds. BUT - get it under control with meds now or you probably won't live long enough to find out why it's too high in the first place. ETA: I've been there and done that - just like you. |
Sounds like your in the same boat as me OP. I have hereditary high BP. No matter what I do, it's meds for the rest of my life.
Quoted: Inactivity, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, sodium... Diabetes, sleep apnea, kidney issues, stress... View Quote All of this and MUCH more. Get that under control ASAP. Your BP is dangerously high. If that reading is accurate, you have a serious problem that can mess up your kidneys, cause a stroke, etc. I'm 64 with lots of medical history. My BP was never that high, but I've got it down to about 120/75 most of the time with a combination of medication, weight loss, quitting my job, and other factors. |
I don't know anything about medical stuff but that's crazy high. You need to see a doctor
And when GD says you need a doctor it's life of death. People blow off treatment for ridiculously serious injuries. I once cut the top of my thumb off, didn't get stitches that I obviously needed and bought veterinarian glue off Amazon and glued it back together almost a week later. I'm amazed that worked |
Go to a doc, explain that you don't have insurance
There are cheap, generic blood pressure meds Even the more spendy ones (which you might get for the heart rate) sometimes have mfg coupons. Maybe try a local pharmacy vs the big guys in that case |

My doctor keeps saying I need meds at 140/90, which I consider kind of marginal. You have a real problem, like others said get on meds and start looking for the root problem. Good luck OP, take care of yourself and get healthy.

Also make sure your arm is not hanging, I put it on the table resting with my elbow and my side and make sure your feet are flat on the floor. It will make a difference but not enough to get you out of the danger zone. Seeing a doc and getting BP meds isn't going to be outrageous, though an ER trip won't be cheap.

Cheap blood pressure meters aren't that accurate. I'd have a professional check if before panicking.
I don't know what an ER visit costs, and I've only gone when I was too messed up from a fight or motorcycle accident to limp home, but you pay it off if you don't have insurance |

Guy I know had this happen. He needed some treatment but we worked it out with the health care providers and he paid it off

Thanks for the input everyone! |

Chew some aspirin on your way to the emergency room. Your bp is almost in the "emergency" category.
https://www.heart.org/en/health-topics/high-blood-pressure/understanding-blood-pressure-readings Or if you want to chance it go see a primary care doc tomorrow. You need to get on meds ASAP. There are many very effective and affordable blood pressure meds available. CVS helped me find a very good price when I had a gap in coverage. |

My doctor recommended Life Source Blood Pressure Monitor.
Not that expensive, also try and get Poor Peoples Insurance. I did. |
Not sure where you're located but in FL, certain BP meds are either free or a few dollars at Publix supermarkets. They also do a few other common meds for free as well. But yes I'd definitely make sure you're taking the reading correctly. See if you can get into a doctor's office on the cheap to get that handled.

I've been there. Had no insurance, went to local concierge medical place and they got me on meds for crazy cheap. 90 day supply was under $10.
Don't fuck around, I did and ended up in the hospital. If you think you can't afford a doctor visit that ain't shit compared to a hospital stay. I was still lucky that I didn't die. |

Dude, get that the bottom number below 100. That's stroke level.
I struggled with high BP. I struggled with it for awhile. I lost weight and was able to get off the majority of them. My GP doc could not get it down. Took a cardiologist to do it. I was on edarbyclor and Bystolic. 40mg and 10mg respectively. Then got switched to Edarbi and Bystolic. Now I'm just on 2.5mg of Bystolic. I'm 6'2" and 197 pounds. And I just turned 40. Cut as much salt as you can stand. If you can't get that bottom number down, see if someone will prescribe you Clonidine. It's a very fast acting and short lived med. It was prescribed to me as an "emergency" med. Mine is 0.1mg. I will warn though if you take more than that you're probably going to fall asleep. I asked a RN friend about that and she said that probably because your body has been working so hard that it needs rest. |
Yeah, you have to have that addressed
Out of pocket may suck, but less than the possible consequences. Look into some sort of outside insurance. Even Rx help, because you may be on it for life. Unfortunately, HBP is usually inherited. Thus, lifestyle has less impact. It sucks, but it is what it is. . |

I had a mega spike a couple years back that sent me to the ER. Low dose meds and moving keep mine at 138ish over hight 70s. Thankfully my heart and kidneys are still in tip top shape.

Wow man. You need to schedule a Dr appt asap. Get some meds for that. There are plenty of cheap Bp meds out there. Tell your dr price is a concern. They should work with you to find a drug you can afford.

The off the counter cuffs are fairly accurate. OP , that is way to high, you need to get to a DR ASAP.
I’m on BP Medicine and should of been sooner , thanks to my new eye doc 3 years back. |
