Bought some a year or so ago. One day son and I ate one of these and sampled a Ready hour 72 hour emergency pack. The stew tasted like unseasoned veggie chili. Not good. However my son liked the apple grape smoothie. I thought the coco bar tasted like a tootsie roll. We only got to the ready hour Mac and cheese which he also liked.

Rice with Veggies. Attached File Added a little water, a sprinkling of the pepper flake packets and the salt/pepper packet. Attached File Really pretty good. No complaints other than there is only one salt/pepper packet for two entrees. I'm going to have to order another couple cases now... |

How many different entrees are in a box of 10? Is it like MREs where it's 12 different meals, or multiple of only a few different things?
Could be good to add to the other stuff socked away to keep the variety up. |

There are 5 menus, each with an A, B & C sub menu. In a case of 10 you'll get 2 from each of the 5 menus. Wiki More Wiki Luck of the draw varies. If you're lucky you get the fig bar cases. |

Okay, so I ate one. I've had worse food in restaurants. I ate both entrees and sampled the rest. I put the entrees in the microwave with a little warm water for 60 seconds and they came out perfect. Only needed a little salt and pepper. I ate the lentil stew first thinking I would like it best from what I've read. It was very good and I gave it a 7/10. Next was the peas in tomato sauce. These were black eyed peas, not green peas. This one was even better than the lentil stew. 8/10. Both were honestly better than any similar dish I've eaten out of a can. The salt and pepper were a must though. Otherwise, both were a bit bland, but still fine. The pop tarts tasted like the real deal and I'm thinking these came from the actual company that makes pop tarts since the wrapper was the same foil. No frosting but they had a nice cinnamon flavor. The crackers were good with the jelly and peanut butter. The jelly was fresh and could have been made by Smuckers. The peanut butter was fine but had more of a sunflower taste. Not quite Skippy or Jiff but still recognizable as peanut butter. The oatmeal cookie was VERY good or as good as any store bought cookie. The shortbread cookie was bland but with a hint of sugar, like a store bought sugar cookie. Overall, I'm very impressed and glad I ordered four more cases. These are very filling (I was stuffed from the two entrees) and would definitely keep a guy going during SHTF. Seriously, if you're on the fence about these, don't be. They're actually good. No regrets!

Good review. Similar to my experience with them but I score maybe a bit lower.
IMHO, the blandness is a plus if you're working hard. Heartburn from excess spice gets me, especially with carbs. I always laugh at the tender tummy brigade. Gonna fight the boog but have to have their 3 Michelin restaurant fare to do it on. |

Everything makes sense in these rations except the two sugar packets.
Are there people out there who sprinkle sugar on their sugar cookies and pop tarts? Better to spend that money on another packet of salt or two. |
|
|
Now eat two HDRs in one sitting.
I dare you. Eating a whole pouch in one sitting would be a feat. They are pretty filling. |

How long will these things store? Is it really 5 years from packaging or is that a best by date and they last indefinitely?

The oatmeal cookie is the only thing that actually tastes a little "off" to me. Not inedible at all. But there is a preservative type taste to it. It is better with the PB smeared on it. Haven't tried smashing it up in one of the mains, yet. |
