I used to have a Mini-14, years ago, just a plan wooden stock and blued. It still had the pencil thin barrel for the entire length of the gun, but it was a newer series, 580 I think. I bought it in 2005.
I think a lot of the Mini-14s posted here look ugly, flash hiders make them look bleh to me for some reason. If they shoot accurately, consistently, that's what matters I guess. I think they should have made the barrel underneath the handguards thicker, but maybe it's too thick now. Maybe they could have found a better compromise between weight and accuracy. |

The one they just put out is closest to a model they made for LE sales, but was not an AC556. I forget the prefixes and suffixes but I think something something mini 14 something something. I think there was a GB in there somewhere. I've seen them for sale as LE trade in guns before. I'm also aware the A Team guns were commercial models modded with shit you could buy from cheesy mail order catalogs back in the day. |

I'd never move to Washington in it's current political crisis, but I'd like to go visit my in laws, and take a rifle. Washington's even banned the SKS - and the M1A by name, leaving the Garand, the M1 Carbine (w/ 10 round mags), the Minis and the KelTec RDB thingie w/o a pistol grip. I think even the FightLite AR thing that was thought to be ban proof was banned. |

I had one of the very early Mini 14s. I actually scoped it so I knew what the accuracy or lack there of was. It was fine with a cold barrel and for the next 2 rounds and then everything went to shit. It would pattern the following rounds in a scattered, vertical string. I always suspected that the barrel was just too light but I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about it and traded it for something else. I did love the way that rifle handled though. If they were $500 I'd probably buy a new Mini 30 (if they still make them) but I'm not paying $800-$1000 for one.

Lol, yeah, the BM-59 and the Shuff's Mini-G are going to be higher on the list. An M1A in 7.62x39mm that takes AK mags would be sexy. Norinco was importing theirs into our Hat. Dunno the current status of their bans. Be a very expensive Mini-30 here. |
