Anyone do Farmer's Carry on the regular?

If so how much weight,  how often, and how far do you walk on a rep?

Looks like a good core and lower back workout. I just started with 40 lbs in each hand.  2 sessions in and I'm definitely feeling muscle groups engaged that were not previously in my standard bar bell workouts.

I'm not anywhere close to strong man stuff but Farmer's Carry seams to be a good heavy weight core workout.

50# for 60 or 90 seconds damaged the tendons in both hands.  Really surprised me but I was 68 y.o. at the time and had not been doing them prior.

I do them with kettlebells a lot. Generally a 70lb and a 53lb that I walk from the garage gym to the end of the driveway, changes hands with the weights and walk back. Great for grip and core strength that translates well to a lot of my hobbies

Good to know. I'll make sure I remain conservative on increasing the weight.

Interesting. A video I watched mentioned adding disperit loads (and switching as you do).

Seems like that would do wonders for core stability.

So you basicly go to failure?

I started with farmers carry years ago.  Good way to build grip strength.

Switched to weighted walking lunges.  50lb dumbbell in each hand. 10 lunges there, 10 lunges back= 1 set. I do 4 sets. Knee must touch ground, back must be vertical.

They kick your ass, but they are awesome workouts.

I started with 45# each hand and went for 100 yds once I could go 100 yds with that I increased 5lb. I now do it with 100# each hand. It took about 8 months. My goal is half my body weight in both each hand. That would be 110 right now. So close.

I built these.  They're about 60lbs each unweighted.    They're a real bitch if you add Fat Grips.  It was my first attempt at making 8"x8"x8' red cedar timbers with a chainsaw mill.  Didn't turn out great so I cut the timber in half and made them into farmer carry logs.  I want to make a log press this summer with another cedar pole I have laying around.

That’s a ton of lifting.

You have to pick it up and run around the barn before dumping it in the spreader.
