Was teased last year already in r/GunnitRust but heck yeah bois

Nopel is killing it. Emancipated us all from FO's FUBAR 9mm uppers and now is gifting us the gift of glory to each of us.

That's fukin sick and I really want to build one just for the lulz, but damn $1K is tough to swallow for something that will probably barely work and never get shot.

First off, that hadn't been established yet. Those are mere speculations. Real cost is going to be 3-4 spools of PLA+ filament, 3DP (if you don't have one; used Ender 3's are under $150 OTD nowadays), 6 stripped AR bolts (what is that, like $180 tops if you go chinesium budget?), 6 bull-profile barrels or extensions & chambered blanks (I'd estimate like $500 tops), and some small miscellaneous hardware store parts like nuts and bolts, maybe some "specialty" tools if you don't have them yet, like an angle grinder, vise, etc. Should be no welding involved on this one.

Honestly you're probably going to be closer to $700-800. According to Bidenomics, rev. 2024, that's like the entry cost of a good decent gun. You're not willing to spend that kind of money on something that will absolutely outclass anything like that? You should be comparing this to the echelon of belt-fed AR uppers, which start at around $3-4k, mind you....this is very affordable.

Only thing im not liking is the use of printed links vs the dime a dozen M27 links

Darn, you're right. Printed it shall be. Metal against the soft PLA+ of the feed pawl gear might also be too rough.

Honestly, not terrible at the end of the day, links are reusable and printing your own means you can make your own instead of buying them.

Anyone know if the bolts are to be used completely stripped (i.e., no gas rings, no ejector springs since it seems those are swapped out for full-power ones)?

Also, he doesn't shed much light on the barrel type or contour. Would carbine-length 0.750" journal size 16" barrels work? Does the profile have to be Govt./SOCOM/HBAR, just not pencil or bull?

In reading the instructions, it looks like the profile or length of the barrel doesn't matter at all. You end up having to drill out the barrel collar out to whatever width your barrels are.

He just doesn't recommend heavy barrels due to weight.

Multiple pictures in the instruction file clearly show the extractor and ejector still installed in the bolt.  As for the gas rings, since the bolts are now being used in a mechanical cam operated system instead of a gas operated internal piston system, they should no longer necessary and are not shown as installed in the exploded bolt picture on page 73 of the instructions

I have 2 CNC gantry mills.   Can 2.5D the hell out of some shit.  But there is some stuff going on with the spindle that I would want to 4axis.

There was a 3 barrel 5 BMG years back.    Would have been cool if designer had gone that route and upped the crank ratio for higher RPM.

Has anyone made 3D designs of the cut firing pins and cam pins? Was thinking of 3DP-ing those parts along with extractors out of metal to see if it would be cheaper to do so instead of potentially paying more for mil-spec dimensioned & unmodified ones, to then cut them. Any group buy interest, potentially?

I picked up a new printer specifically to start working on this project as my old 200mm^3 printer isn't large enough.

50% receiver for giggles is so cute

Well I'm in.
Barrels ordered from schley's $60 barrel sale.
BCG's from bear creek (cheaper than just buying bolts + pieces I needed). They shipped FAST, already here.
I figured I could sell these off if the project fails pretty easily to recover some cost.

Big skinny bearing coming from china
Most of the rest of the bearings and stock coming from amazon or already here.

I've printed most of the delinker. Work is putting it on pause for a week, but that's ok, this is a long haul printing project.

Received the beeeeg bearing today. Nothing to put it into yet, nozzles not yet arrived.
Did get the correct m3x5x7 inserts (m3x5,7 are NOT the same) today so I was able to assemple the delinker. It's not very smooth, so I need to work on it.

The d-linker has a jamming issue that I need to resolve running in the forward direction. Works perfectly in reverse and I think it's only one of the six delinker rods I'll have to mess with it later

Maybe for the belt links but PETG is suicide in 2A applications. The bottom entry is PLA+ but if you have a good printer, CF nylon is where it’s at

Something going on with my printer, lots of tiny voids. Seemed to start with new nozzle after the other one jammed.

Spent a couple of hours tonight work ong the de-linker. It kept binding up. A lot of sanding the channel, working on the delinker rods, etc.. Finally running smooth.

Then, on to working on the clutch/trigger assembly.

How fast of a gear ratio is doable?
