I currently own a 21 Tundra 4x4 (last of the great V8s) and have considered selling it. I only drive my truck once a week and really just need something to tow a small jon boat, hunt in and make the two hour drive to the range once every other month.

I’m considering selling the Tundra and snagging a used 4x4 for $10-12k. I wouldn’t mind a Tacoma but good lord the prices….. any other small used trucks you’d suggest that’ll be over 100k miles? My only requirements are be safe enough for a 3YO in a car seat and 4x4.

I keep coming back to a Tacoma over and over but want to ensure I’m considering all options.

F450 King Ranch obviously

Should be able to find a 6.0 in a 2500 Chevy/GMC in that price range, or a 6.2 Super Duty. Since a Tundra gets 3/4 ton mpg may as well get a 3/4 ton truck...

In half tons I'd avoid a turbo and any form of cylinder deactivation

I had a Taco with my kids were that age, and their feet kicked the front seats, being in their boosters.  Might want to have them come check it out before you buy.

Even worse if they're in car seats.  That was the Gen 2 Taco with the larger cab.

I had a first and second gen taco. Loved them but my old GX470 is better in every way except mileage and range. Much better off road as well. Even on street tires. Hope I can hang on to it a long time. Second row gets crowded for teenagers.

Any 4x4 for 12K is going to be beat to crap and 20 years old.  I vote to keep the Tundra.

Keep your current truck . Why sell it and get something else?

Just keep the Tundra. You won't regret it in the long run.

Just keep the truck.  I drive my Tacoma at most once a week as long as it's above 35 degrees and I can ride my motorcycle.  Still won't consider selling it.

Keep it and don't downsize when you want a safer vehicle and have a growing child.
