There I was minding my own business reading arfcom and had the ham radio on out at the shop.

I hear blood curdling screams and my name being called out, beckoning me to come quickly. Probably all the neighbors as did I thought someone was being murdered or something terrible.

I start running toward the house expecting the worst. As I'm running trying not to spill my beer, I yell out " what is it, what is wrong"?

Finally I hear "snake".

I slowed my trot and hollered out " Well get away from it" I still couldn't see anything yet.

She said it was in the driveway and crawled under those rocks there.

I told her it was probably dead from a heart attack with all that screaming. lol

I found it. immediately recognized the red and yellow , then chopped off it's head. Attachment Attached File

It was probably just cold, and wanted you to bring it inside to warm up.

On her way to work one morning,

Down the path alongside the lake,

A tender-hearted woman saw a poor half-frozen snake.

His pretty-colored skin had been all frosted with the dew.

“Oh well,” she cried, “I’ll take you in and I'll take care of you.”

“Take me in oh tender woman,

“Take me in, for heaven's sake,

“Take me in oh tender woman,” sighed the snake.

She wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk

And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk .

Never saw one of those in real life.  I don't think we have'em in Missouri.

Seems like there was an old saying, something like:
Red and Yellow, don't worry, he is a mellow fellow.
Yellow and Red, avoid him or you'll be dead.

Or maybe thats backwards...  I don't get more than 15' or so from them.

I don’t disagree, but his property his rules.

Coral snakes seem to be pretty timid from the ones I have come across.

Dogs. Pretty sure they would attack at it and it would latch on their lips and that wouldn't be good.

And if by harmless you mean not very aggressive or very difficult for them to get a bite in ,I would agree.

But they are very very deadly . I would rather be bit by two copperheads , maybe even a cottonmouth.

You have to go out of your way enough to piss it off enough to bite you. Mostly. Supposedly.

Just the opposite in my experience. The ones on here who bitch “poor snake wasn’t hurting anyone, good job big man” are the types with pit bulls and several poisonous snakes in an aquarium in their living room.

I grew up on a farm in a heavy farming community and I don’t know a single person that gets upset about killing snakes.

I have a black snake on my property.  It hangs out in a woodpile close to a couple fruit trees.

I don't have a snake or rodent problem.

Appears you left out some facts. Less dangerous than rattlesnakes yet has the 2nd strongest venom of any snake. Good chop.

“Coral snakes are small, vibrantly colored, highly venomous snakes. They have the second-strongest venom of any snake (the black mamba has the most deadly venom), but they are generally considered less dangerous than rattlesnakes because coral snakes have a less effective poison-delivery system.

Coral snakes are separated into two groups: the Old World coral snakes [found in Asia] and the New World coral snakes [found in the Americas], according to Sara Viernum, a herpetologist based in Madison, Wisconsin. "New World coral snakes are considered some of the most toxic snakes in North America because their venom contains powerful neurotoxins,"

We have rat snakes and hognosed for that . They get a pass.

Dogs found this one and alerted (they went apeshit barking)

I played with this one for a while then let him go over the fence to keep the dogs from killing it.

ETA for those that don't know, he's not dead but playing possum.
That's their defense.

Flip him upright and he won't allow it and just keeps rolling onto his back.

So don't get your panties in a bunch. I hear it's uncomfortable.

I've had a couple coral snake encounters in my yard, they always start fleeing when I got close so I let them go. Copperheads on the other hand are usually standoffish and get got.

There have been a couple dogs killed by coral snakes in our neighborhood, so when my dog started going after one in our back yard, it had to go. It got a shovel to the neck.
We had another one inside our pool enclosure a couple years later, so it got the same treatment.

We often have black racers and they get to stay, so we don't have a problem with snakes, just the potentially deadly ones. We actually have one living in a deck storage box in the yard along with some lawn tools this year.

killed two of those bastards with a lawn mower years ago - within a couple weeks of each other, in the same back yard, by the same fence line.

fuckers jumped up out the back of the mower as i went over them, one damn near hit the handlebar.

fuckers made me jump - didn't know i was capable of that much vertical

and it reminds me why i don't do yard work in shorts

Snakes are a weird topic here.  A member posts a video or story about shooting a few squirrels, “Cool story bro!”  You even mention that one of the neighbors has a dog that might be a pitbull mix and it’s “I see that dog off leash I’m mag dumping and reloading!”

But some dude kills a snake in his own yard and it’s like he just offended God for killing one of his most pure creatures.
