Beautiful snake. I don't kill snakes unless venomous AND in my yard. I would have killed him. We had a scarlet king snake make his way into our guest bathroom a few years ago. I turned him loose at the back property line.

Kinda along the same line.
At my FiL's funeral last week, I got the chance to talk to his sister-in-law's husband. Got to talking about bikes. He recounted a story where they were on a ride and a Hawk swooped down and grabbed something near the road. Next thing he knows, a Copperhead came down on his faring and starts to wrap itself around the handle bars. He got on the clutch (head was on the throttle/brake side) while reaching back to keep his wife from jumping off while moving his right leg to the side to avoid the strikes of the now very pissed off Copperhead. The snake falls off the bars and into the street about 30 seconds later, without making contact with him. He said it felt like a damn hour. Kept the bike up and stable. Pretty stinking impressive, if you ask me. Also a good reason the exterminate any flying Copperheads you see.  He thinks the Hawk was intending to drop the snake on the roadway, to stun or kill it, and missed the road. |

OK, I'll give you the SE Asia rundown on how not to be bitten by a snake:
1:Mow your lawn. 2:Pick up your garbage 3: Kill any rats/mice in your AOR. Garbage and high grass bring mice and rats. Mice and rats are the favorite prey of snakes. Cobras and Pit Vipers feed on other snakes. Clean lawns = fewer venomous snakes ETA: Not stepping on them works about 75% of the time.

It's in a whole different class of suck. Coral snakes are laid back and won't bite unless you're food or if they feel they have no other choice. |
