I never seen a racer, that enjoys being a passenger when a car is out on lap.

Favorite driver hell, he's one of my favorite human beings.  His attitude toward life, and the universe in general, is awesome.

I'd love to see him and Vettel together again, but in this season's Ferrari.

Something has been bugging me on the Chinese race.
How overbearing are the commies going to be on the press?
What will the crowds look like?

Will the people just appear to look as if they have been forced to be there?

IIRC, the race sold out in very short order. It has been years and Zhou is around.

200K people?
how many are CCP nationals?
There cant be more than 5-7K non locals.

I did not think that many Chinese could afford F1 tickets.

Nevermind, I see they start at $68

Ehh…he’ll be ok.

I always figured his family has strong ties to the government. They moved to England in 2012 so he could pursue a racing career. Very, very little info on the family with only a couple of pics of his parents on the web.

We should see them this weekend, but I won’t be surprised if we don’t.

The one thing I’ve liked about the races so far this year is they don’t interfere with activities during the day. 😆

Takes alot off coffee and motion though to not fall asleep by 5pm the following day though!

Sainz to Red Bull doesn't make sense and it may just be a strategy to bump his contract at Mercedes.  He should go to Merc for a year, then on to Audi in '26.

If Audi's contract is really beating everyone else and Sainz is fine with being in the Kick Sauber for a year, so be it, but if I were him, I'd be asking Audi to change the contract.

This has been reported as the Ferrari that LeClerc is driving to the track. I guess Kym Ilman will confirm at some point.

Yeah, so that is one ugly paint job/wrap.

It’s always been my understanding that Ferrari is strict on after market paint jobs on their cars, to the point that you could be put on a ‘naughty’ list and not allowed to buy another one.

Perhaps the rules have changed or different in China.

I have my doubts.
Ferrari is very much against cars getting wrapped, and there are stories of people wrapping their cars and then getting
blacklisted from the "client list".
Usually the local Ferrari dealer will provide the cars for the weekend, and that would be Ital Automotive in Shanghai, and they don't have
anything that ugly in stock. lol.

**Edit: Too slow, chaas made the same point above.

I have my doubts as well, but…

- it does exist
- it does have appropriate passes for vip parking
- those are screen shots taken from the below vid (showing B roll footage of drivers arriving at the track, etc.)

Oh man I wish that was true. It'd be hilarious and a little too on-the-nose for China.

Sounds like media is saying it's a bitumen treatment and the "painted" comments are from what the drivers see.

Quite honestly, my favorite Kym Illman videos are his travel vlogs, critiques of airline food or airport club lounges, etc.

Just finished his most recent video, and damn, the hoops you have to go through to get into that country.
The info they want about you, the fingerprints ... fuck all that. He put a lot of faith into a Chinese train going 300 kph.

Did you see any of ADVChina's videos? They had some motivation to shit on the CCP (they had to leave the country) but their tale of Westerners in modern China is really interesting.

The 'painted' track story is funny, even if Autosport clarified that it's actually a bitumen treatment; it still sounds a little to close to a half-arsed superficial bit of polish to me, which is very modern China.
