That's pretty much the tier 1 parts sans bourbon. Just swab different bourbon to taste really. Or grab some Woodford reserve bitters in cherry or oak flavors to change it up.

2 oz Rittenhouse rye
1/2 oz Carpano Antica vermouth
1/2 oz Dolin dry vermouth
2 dashes Angostora bitters
1/4 teaspoon of Luxardo cherry juice

Stir in a shaker filled with ice and pour into a chilled glass with a Luxardo cherry in it.

During the fall and early winter, I will substitute maple syrup for the sweet vermouth, and use walnut bitters.

The vermouth really makes a difference.   I prefer Carpano Antica Vermouth.  I usually use nicer bitters, I have several and switch them up.

If you want to try something a little different, make a "Black Manhattan".

It uses Averna Amaro instead of vermouth.  Two parts bourbon or rye, one part Averna, then a few dashes of Angostura bitters (use both yellow and orange).  Garnish with a Luxardo cherry.

My ideal recipe is:

2oz WhistlePig 6 year Rye
1oz Punt E Mes Vermouth
2 dashes angostura bitters
1 or 3 Luxardo cherries.

Stirred and served in a Nick and Nora glass.
