My beloved 7 year old English Springer Spaniel, Sydney passed last month and my wife and i have been busted up over her death. It wasn't a good one.

Attachment Attached File

I hadn't said much offline because I wanted to talk to my neighbors about it before they realized she was gone. Hit up the last one to see if he had put out rat bait (said no) and I am forced to reconcile myself to the fact that I'll never have answers.

I wasn't gonna get back on that horse but a friend reached out to tell me her cousin in BattleCreek MI is a breeder and had 5 ESS puppies ready for adoption. My wife and I went on spur of the moment last night to see them. We returned home with this little girl at 10pm. haven't settled on a name yet but leaning towards "Chloe". Maybe too soon emotionally but logistically this works for us. My wife had not smiled in 6 weeks and she's head over heels for this pup.

She’s beautiful OP.

“Sadie” is the only proper name for a female dog so you may want to add it to your list..

Sucks what happened to your previous dog. I still think about my last dog and she's been gone for 16 years. I didn't get to be there when she was put down either.

But here's to new beginnings

Someone else to share in the fresh puppy joys and frustrations.

She’s a beautiful pup. It’s never too soon to get another pup. I don’t want to be miserable after the loss of a good dog, went through that once and I swore I’d never do it again.

When our last GSD died of a heart defect at 6 years old, we were both destroyed over it. One day about 3 months after Athena passed, she was on her home health route up towards Johnson City, Tn and saw a sign for GSD puppies. She brought home a wonderful pup we named Luna. 3 months later we went to the Czech Republic and picked up a 3 month old long haired GSD and named her Phoebe.
We thought after Athena that we were done. She was an amazing dog. But circumstances played out that we ended up with 2 in 3 months time. Couldn't be happier.

Literally went through the same thing. Lost the best black lab I’ve ever had a few weeks ago. My wife said “no more dogs”. That being said we put a deposit on a litter due in may. Super excited to get another lab.

Congrats on the new pup. Absolutely beautiful. Hopefully she’s as good as your last one.

Congrats OP. Springers are great dogs.  I too am currently suffering from needle sharp puppy teeth from my new Golden.  She just learned how to go down stairs today.  She discovered how to go up stairs last week and would go up stairs then bark and whine until I went up to carry her back down.  It was cute the first time .

Our Golden Retard died at 5 years old last November.

I can’t bring myself to bring another dog home yet. Wife and I say almost every day that we miss her.  My last kid is off to college in the fall. Maybe then.

Your puppy looks awesome. Chloe is a great name. That’s what we named our Golden.

Makes me happy to see so many other guys on this same adventure

My son comes back from Japan in August and he is not much of a dog lover. I am trying to get her in order before he gets home. lol. Sydney completely ignored him. Best dog ever

I've done it twice now.  One was about a month and the other was a week to the day.  It doesn't heal the wound but it gives you something positive to focus on.

Edit, forgot to say how cute the pup is. keep those pictures coming.

Cute puppy!

Yeah, the last time we went to "look" at a dog, in the wake of losing another dog, we even up bringing him home too.

He should be bringing me his toy any minute now.

Oh yeah, and we have two more we adopted since.

Timing on new pups can be tricky.

Some folks claim "they are not ready yet" but yet when happenstance dumps one in your lap it almost always works out.

Very cute pup , enjoy the ride!

You may not have been ready, but sometimes things just fall into place.

She is a cutie, Chloe is a good name.

When my buddy Roy passed away August 11th of last year said we weren't getting a 3rd dog again.

Pic of Roy taken on August 11th during his last truck ride.

20 days later this girl fell into my lap.  She was born in February of last year.  I got her August 31st.  She was a reservation rescue and if I didn't take her she was going back into the system; I couldn't let that happen.

This pic was taken exactly a month ago.  She is an awesome dog.  Lab x GSD.

Nice pup OP!
