Rest in Peace.
Used to party with some of the Betts family. Local & world wide greats.
Cheers...

Truly one of the greats; easily one of my top 5 favorite guitar players of all time. Hit me like a ton of bricks when I heard the news today.

I got to see him at (what I think) was his last concert in Minnesota back in 2014. Great show; he even signed my Les Paul after the show!

Thanks for the music Dickey…you will be missed

Dickey was one of the greats, and every bit as good as Duane in my opinion.

The Great Southern was such a great band too.  Dickie and Dangerous Dan made a fantastic combination.  Both just so amazing at composition and putting the notes on tape.

I’ll miss hearing him play

As a trio we still cover Dickie's "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed".

One of his better efforts from the Great Southern days. This one reminds me of the Mountain Jam for some reason.

Nice!

The live version at Fillmore East is my favorite. Duane and Dickey are just magical on it.

Probably saw them 20ish times from 89 to 96.  This one hits me as hard as Garcia passing.  There will never be anything like watching Dickey going nuclear during a guitar solo, melting the air while his 1959 Gibson Gold Top rips through his Marshall at top volume.  God speed Forrest Richard Betts.

Allman Brothers were one of my top 5 favorite bands.

Only saw them once July 1, 1979 at the Legend Valley Dixie Jam in Thornville Ohio with the Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Pure Prairie League, and McGuffey Lane.

I still have my ticket, by the time I got there the fence was tore down and people were just walking in.

Legend Valley was a haul from muh home in 79. They advertised a lot though.

I really miss seeing the ABB live. Absolutely the best and my favorite band of all time . Saw Dickey solo a few times after he left the band always amazing. His son is carrying the torch for him . Duane Betts has his own band and also plays in the Allman Betts band with Devon Allman and Berry Oakley Jr.

Damn. I'm a huge ABB fan, have been since early on. I fortunately got to see them when they were all alive... at the Jax Beach Auditorium. I've seen them many times since. Great music.

I’m just gonna bump this thread again because Richard Betts was one of my heroes.

He deserves more than 2 pages.

I think the Sons have broken up or are not playing together at least right now. Duane Betts has had the most pub lately and is headed in a more country direction.

I stand corrected. I based that on a post one of them had made on FB and got the impression they had stopped touring. Good to know they are still making music together.

Is it a nostalgia act or do they have anything of their own?

They are both. They have original material that is good but obviously the Allman Brothers material is always included.

Was there ever a more complimentary guitar duo in rock and roll than Duane and Dickey at the ABB’s peak?

Seems most bands weren’t big enough to contain the egos of two great guitarists.

RIP fellas
