I'm a self admitted RMR fanboy to begin with.

Glass looks better than an RMR to my eyes.

The new reticle is awesome.  LOVE it under NODs, very similar to an EoTech and is much better than just a dot in my opinion.

Forward facing light sensor works damn well.

Top load battery is a welcomed change.

Ive shot a bunch of different Holosuns, ACRO P2s, and the cheaper dots out there.  They have all left me wanting.  Holosuns have edge distortion to me, P2 is nice but its like looking through a damn soda straw.

But, you pay for it.  Not cheap by any means.  I think there are much better values to be had in a dot.

Reason #887 open emitters are trash for "duty" type carry. I'm a big fan of "run what ya brung" aka, shoot what you're going to shoot when it matters, so I decided to shoot my carry gun P10c with 507 in our rainy 2 gun match this weekend. And theeeen...

Attachment Attached File

Finished out the match with my MPS equipped P07.   Truth is I knew I would want to switch at some point in between stages due to a combination of fog, rain and mud, but it did happen sooner than I expected. 2nd stage dot was gone, completely indistinguishable in the lens. Needed q tips to get the emitter cleared.

Weird. When I hold mine at a similar angle you can’t see the dot either.

Huh.

Just pointing out that these things do indeed fail in inclement weather. It's a thing. Sure it can be rinsed in water and usually be back in action, but I was fresh out of water in the middle of a stage.

Depending on the angle I held the gun when shooting l, the dot was either totally missing, split or fragmented, or just an indistinguishable blur. I cleared the stage, just didn't want to lose time again by missing some of the more difficult pistol shots. I have many open emitters, still not the wisest thing to run in a muddy 2 gun match where prone in the mud is inevitable.

I had to aim with the lower left of this blob and not the brighter spot on the right lol

I get you were there and saw it live, certainly could be blocking the beam path with debris, but your pictures will be a bit deceptive because your camera is focused on the red dot housing.  Even if it was cleaned up and in perfect working order, the picture would show a large bloomed out blob.  You need to force the camera to focus down range at the target or "infinity" to get a good image of what the dot would look like in a picture.

Well, somehow I managed to crack the glass in my 507K on my carry pistol. It's up in the top left corner. The optic still works, but I'm wondering if Holosun might be able to fix it. I've heard mixed info regarding their customer service.

Glad I did, as the 507Comp would have even more overhang. Not going that route now, and im not quite sure yet what I want to do.

Have new grips and a trigger on the way, and im heavily considering an upgraded ignition kit

Both of mine had white spots right out of the box. They haven't gotten worse but the most I have through one of them is about 3,000 rounds so far.

Edit: RMR not SRO

Honestly I'm really liking my Steiner MPS a lot more. Very crisp dot and clear glass.

It seems like if they break they do it at low round count.  I have 5 SRO's, and I think the first one I bought is still going.  Who knows how many rounds are on it.  Two that I purchased (that were likely produced during covid) were ones I had issues with the lens delaminating.  I got them to admit they had a manufacturing issue that they addressed.

I really should get a backup.

I’ve got an almost new 507 Comp, which I can use if my SRO shits the bed.

If anyone’s interested, the Holosun SCRS is a pretty nifty sight. About the diameter of an Aimpoint Micro, but overall length is stubbier. 509T mounting footprint.

Well good thing it’ll technically be a SBR then

It won’t be mounted on a reciprocating slide, which is what I imagine they’re worried about

On second look, the rain probably isn't the cause of the issues. It appears that you installed your optic using the jaws of life. That is not recommended and typically does not enhance optic performance.
