I run a Roland special at work so I built a mini addition for ccw.

I have a TRL6 but no hoster so it is lightless until one comes in.

G43X, RMRcc, Zaffiri precision barrel with a mini comp, tungsten recoil system, Ghost connector and NDZ other components

I like it. I've been enjoying comp'd 9mm Roland Special-esque guns for a while.

I carry a Sig Feauxland Special.

So, I'm familiar with what a Roland Special IS, but I'm not familiar with its origins. Some registered badass operator who decided that a comped barrel, rds, and light were essential add-ons to one's fighting handgun? What's the backstory to its inception?

Delta guy, Chuck Pressburg, was issued a G19 with Surefire X300 which always got carbon on the lens when shooting. He put a KKM threaded barrel and comp on it which made it the same length as the X300 to prevent the carbon fouling and still fit in a G34 duty holster. The comp also had the benefit of making hot 9mm NATO loads feel like regular 9mm. Also had a RMR and mag well.

ETA: "Roland" was the alias he used on the P&S modcasts since he was still active duty at the time.

Yup, our issued duty pistol was the Gen 3 G35, now it is G34 or G17 Gen 5.

My duty pistol is a Gen 3 G23 frame, with Zev internals and magwell, KAB defence worked slide, a16lb recoil spring and of couse a KKM barrel and comp. It fits in my old G35 holster .

I did one minus the comp.  I do have a threaded barrel, though.

OP, you're fortunate to work for an agency that allows so much leeway.

That a Griffin Armament micro comp on the 43x?  Does it to much in your experience?

When you are an armorer, and lead firearms instructor you get leeway. Anyone in the department can have an RMR as long as they purchase it themselves. It sounds harsh but we are a very small agency and do not have a big city budget. When my fellow instructor (Now a Sergeant) took the class a couple of years ago he was one of three people using irons.

The comp is definitely not as effective as the KKM, however it does mediate a little bit of dot bounce. Dont expect Moses parting the seas level of recoil mitigation.

So serious question. I run 124gr +p gold dots in my carry guns. An rmr and tlr1 on one of them. Does the comp really help that much versus the length it adds.

Yes.  I built one out about 2 years ago.   This is from when it was still pretty fresh.
ATEi slide work / KKM / RM09

It shoots great, super accurate with the 357sig of course, and the KKM comp improvement has a noticeably better return on investment when comparing comped versus non-comped splits with both the 9mm and 357sig RS versions.  But the overall average splits for me are still slightly better with the 9mm because the 357sig has more natural muzzle rise to overcome.  The G19 RS splits still average around .03-.04s faster for me than with the G32 RS on aimed fire speed stuff like the 5y portion of the Advanced Super Test.   And as should be anticipated,  the blast is greater with the 357sig round out of a comped gun.   I keep wanting to switch out my carry RS for this version, but the additional blast is a concern I haven't been able to justify yet but I'm still itching to make the switch one of these days despite this downside.

I have 2 other similarly equipped G19 Rolands for comparison.  One has been my EDC for the last 6 years and then it's near-twin has been my primary training class and range gun over that time with over 75-80,000 rounds on it now.

I run GD 124+p as well.  The length doesn't bother me because I would be carrying in longer G34 kydex holster anyway.   That was a realization I got to when moving to a G19 with X300U to finally a RS.   If you're using a larger WML already then a longer slide just makes sense with no down side.  I suspect your holster setup would be similar already with the TLR1.    The KKM comp is noticeable with the GD 124+p,  plus I find that the G19 RS to be a flatter shooter and faster than just a G34 with identical light (muzzle weight).

It does but you have to tune the recoil spring to the round you are shooting. Too light and it will have no effect, too heavy and it wont function. Wolff offers a kit that goes from 13 to 17 lbs with 18 being the factory installed weight

My G19 Roland has a comp.  This one I suppress, so I left it with just the thread protector.

@Alex_F

The Griffin Micro comp is the same size a thread protector and comes off easily. I used an O ring to keep it from loosening, works great.

That's..perfect.

The only thing I would change is a threaded barrel for a can.

The contrasting colors.

Extended mag.

RDS.

I can remove the comp and it's a threaded barrel. /edit to add:  with the comp she's finicky about ammo... no 147s.  I shoot hotter 124s through it now, but it annoys me having to buy 124gr HST and 147gr HST.  Just another reason I stopped after ~50k through it.  I might need to replace the barrel at some point but I haven't noticed a POI shift yet.  It's still my "toss in the get home bag" gun with a few extra mags.
I have a Beretta for my suppressed gun now, though.
