Ok, here is my extensive, LONG record.

4 years NJROTC, anchors away!  Learned more here than anywhere else...

1996-98 13B in the Virginia Army National Guard, 1/111 FA Battalion 29th ID.

Break in service for ROTC at Old Dominion University.

Commissioned August 2001, reported to Ft. Benning September 9 2001 , only two days before the attack.

Infantry Officer Basic Course, then Ranger School 06-02 to 07-02, graduated July 12.

Ft. Campbell, Rifle platoon leader during OIF until July 03 with Bushmaster Company 1/327 Bulldogs, Above the Rest; BASTOGNE BRIGADE, 101st Airborne.  Took over the Battalion Mortar Platoon, Baseplate for the rest of the deployment.

Returned from Iraq, served as XO for the Battalion HHC Company, recently assigned to Division G3 as part of the Modularity Coordination Cell for Transformation (going from 3 Brigades to 4 Brigade Combat Teams).  Waiting to get out in August 05.

Served in two divisions from Normandy.

1/4 became the  first Desert Trained Btn in the Marine Corps when we rotated in mass from Oki to 29 Palms.  I spent a year there while 1/4 performed aggressor duties for all of the units that rotated there for training. 29 Palms was pretty good duty for a grunt. Live fire ranges as far as the eye could see. Lots of interesting interaction between salty 1/4 China Marine Grunts and the comm weanies and cannon cockers in the E Club.

I'm proud to say that my son is a squad leader recruit at Parris Island right now.  He is headed to 29 Palms to become a Data Weanie. I can't wait to go back and see him.

I was across the sand pit/next door at A/5-20IN MAY97 to MAY00, was a 240B Gunner. I/we was along to "play" with you guys on the Panama rotation (Alpha 5/20 was attached to you guys to act as OPFOR). Was/am friends with one of 1/5's, at that time, Commo NCO's (SGT Clapham, L.), who I'm still in touch with. He was on that Sinai rotation with you. Salute Brother!

Cool bro, I knew of SGT. Clapham and even have him in one of my barracks videos (he was on CQ that night) where some buddies and I were running around drunk causing trouble, lol.  He just told us to keep it in our rooms and didn't say a word to anybody else about it.  He's definitely cool in my book ht

Thanks for serving!!   Mike

I was in Aco 5th/20th from 90-91.

You know, we (5/20) got plucked out of the 1st Brigade 25th I.D. there at Fort Lewis to be one of the original Stryker Brigades, which was fun. Lineage wise it made sense with the bigger history with 2nd I.D., which is where we went,  but it pissed us off cuz' there was that rivalry between the brigades there at Lewis. I was 3 weeks from ETS when it was official and we became 2nd I.D. and we took off the Tropic Lightning and sewed on the Indian Head. So I suppose I could say I was a veteran of the 2nd I.D. as well.

Hell, it was too long ago to remember my MOS's:
2-1/2 years as an aircraft engine mechanic on propeller-driven planes (Yeah, we used to have those). 1-1/2 years as a medic. After boot, spent my whole tour at Peterson Field, Colorado. It was tough to take. Everyone else in my boot camp Flight went to Thailand or Vietnam.

My dad's US Army, Staff Sergeant, decorated at the Battle of the Bulge. Very proud of him.

My son's a USMC Sergeant stationed at LeJuene, winding up his second tour. His other grandfather was also a leatherneck.

Enlisted December 27, 1966, Army,
Fort Bliss, Basic
Fort Lewis, Infantry Basic
Fort Sill, Artillery OCS
Fort Hood, Supply Officer
Republic of Veitnam, Forward Observer for A Company 1st Battalion 46th Infantry, 198th Light Infantry Brigade from October 1968 to May 1969. Fire Direction Officer, B Battery 1/14 Artillery, 198th Light Infantry Brigade, Supply from September to October 1969 then home.

Luckiest man in Veitnam. Even though I was with a very aggressive rifle company for all those months and on a forward LZ, no American was ever killed or wounded anywhere near me, with the exception of my first day in the field (one shoulder wound).
