Friday morning, we were surprised with a package.  Students always enjoy opening them.  They thought I was lying to them when I said I had no idea what it was.

They were already coming up with ideas on how to use it in the display.   Should be fun to incorporate.

I was down before classes getting a picture of the tower progress, when this young lady photobombed my shot.  She is a former student from a long time ago, and has been working for the district as an advocate for homeless students.   It's fun to see former students come back and work for the district, even if it does make one feel a bit old.

Homeless?  In Wyoming?  I thought homeless up north only lasted til the 1st frost except in Noo Yark City.  That's why they all come to Texas, fer the free saunas.

Damn, that's surprising.

It definitely can be if you aren’t directly involved in care or education of people in that age group, but it isn’t at all uncommon.

I see things from the medical side as well as through my involvement in foster care, and I also have several friends who are educators, so I get some insight that way. Lots of them have already had encounters with the foster care/child welfare system and aren’t interested in returning to that hell, so they leave home and find other ways to survive.

Finally managed to tag this thread - the AMR covert link I use at work won't let me tag anything. I was gonna ask if you could slide a tiny Hagar The Horrible in there somewhere...

how is your supply of staples, tacks, brads, glue sticks, screwdriver bits etc. Let me know if you need any and sizes. Should be able to hook the students up with any of that stuff.

Guns,

I don't recall if this has been discussed before or not, but would it be possible for you to create an amazon account and create a sharable "wish list"?  We could ensure to get the right thing and if a need arose, you could just add an item.

Will you have mermaids in the caves under the sea?

Will the Dragon Rider have some Zerk fittings added to his joints?

How big are the dragon eyes compared to an egg(maybe a goose egg)?

If you blow the contents out of an egg, then enlarge the hole in one end to allow refilling, you've got a cheap, single use resin mold, and an egg would be somewhat close to an eye shape. Fill the egg with resin, dye and let dry.

I'm sure they don't make taxidermy eyes big enough.

And before he comes in refusing to take credit... what are the odds that year after year the students at this one school in rural Wyoming produce this kind of artistic and engineering talent?

Yes, the kids are doing the work. They are being managed, encouraged, and rewarded. Getting the best out of a group is what talented people do.

@guns762

I made this Viking boat from a kit about 45 years ago. The dragon head and tail are metal as the oars, shields and benches. I had to carve the boat hull myself. I didn’t paint the shields because these guys were recon and needed to be covert! 🤣Attachment Attached File

Not sure if we talked about this yet or not.

Will there be smoke and fire coming out of the dragon's mouth?

Lighting for fire would work, a frosted piece of Plexiglas edge lit with randomly varying intensity red and orange LEDs feeding ot the edge so the frost in shape of fire lights up.   That works just with a plain piece of plexiglas then masking it and sandblasting off the surface where you want the light feed from the edges to light up the glass.  could just cut the plexiglass to fit but the edges would need torch melt polishing so the light from the LEDs would bounce properly instead of just seeing a beam from where the LEDs emit to the first curve in the cut.  It gets really finicky when you're trying to use Plexiglas as a planar fiber optic to get all the internal light reflections correct so mostly just the frosted areas light up.

I was thinking fake smoke and fire like the smoke jumpers project.

Having fire in the school would probably be as bad as having it on a plane.

All of that is true. You know what else is true? Leadership matters.

History differs on who said this... it remains true no matter who noted it originally.

"An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep."
