It occurred to me tonight that the Lexus GX 550 is really just a Prado with a 3.4 TT and some leather.
Attempt to tell me that I’m wrong. |

Not sure anyone would disagree. The GX470 is just a Prado 120 or something, right?
Not a bad thing. |

The GX460 is a Prado. The Prado VX-L has leather. Very nice ride. Been driving one for the past 5 years.

All GX's are Prados. Dunno why this is some sort of revelation.

And in breaking news, Generalissimo Francisco Franko... is still dead.
The Lexus GX has always been a LC Prado with a big engine and nicer interior. Welcome to the year 2002. |

Gas milage sucks sucks and it's underpowered for what it is but you can get 300k miles on one easy. |

View Quote Frankly, it's about time the LC was downsized. For the GX to now be on the LC platform is a pretty good compliment for how customers want to use the GX. Looks like the LX is now on the Sequoia/Tundra chassis? Man, a lot has changed since I left the dealerships 4 years ago. |

The Prado I drove in Africa was diesel with a manual transmission.

In the Bahamas, you can buy them with right hand drive, under the “land cruiser” brand.

Fucking love my Land Cruiser Lite 460. Too much engine means it just cruises without trying. Mpg sucks, tech was outdated when I bought it, but at 6 years ownership (12 years old now) I’ve done gas, oil, tires, battery, brakes, and my kid ripped the door handle off the back. Otherwise nothing.

Whatever you do don't sign up for the FB group for these.
Coolant valley plate issues, front timing cover leaks and the transmissions are starting to fail on the older ones that are getting to 150k+ miles though the latter is probably because people are not changing the trans fluid enough. |

You won’t be drag racing it to the mall, but it’s unstoppable off road. Wish I could get one in the US. |

Is there any truth to the claims that the 3.4 TT engines are spinning bearings and needing to be rebuilt?

View Quote The LC250 and the GX550 are Prados. The Prado is a LC, always has been, just a 7/8th scale LC. The Lexus GX was typically a 4R (Hilux Surf overseas), until the 460 when it was a Prado, hence the barn door opening to the wrong side for the US. My real issue, I have a few actually, with the new generations of Toyota (and the Lexus GX/LX) are the abysmally small fuel tank capacities. Who THE FUCK at Toyota thought a 18gal tank in the new Tacoma was acceptable, 21gal for the GX550, 17.9 for the US Land Cruiser, 21 for the LX600... Fucking crackheads. Meanwhile, I have a V8 that gets roughly as good MPG and has a 36gal fuel tank. I like my 36gal fuel tank, I've been thinking about getting a 44-45gal replacement. However, it's just slightly less than a 4.0 4Runner, the real irritant is required premium. It's a NA engine, and all NA engines quickly bump up against physics. The benefit is reliability. |

What I think will happen in about a year is the Toyota guys, me included, will figure out the new 6th Gen 4Runner is going to outshine and perform the entire new Tahara line up.
As much as I despise a turbo charged 4 cylinder, the new 4Runner engine may be a winner What will pain me is buying a "Land Cruiser" with a 4 cylinder engine, when I have the absolute best Land Cruiser made, my 2020 sitting in the garage with a V8 |

As to my mpg in my 460? I get 15 in the city and 18 on road trips. The v8 is good but the truck is heavy. An extra 50 ponies could have been squeezed out of the 4.6 without impacting reliability. It's fine as is though. I'm hoping to keep my '22 for ever... |
