Just finished yesterday and had not heard of this before.  Written as historical literature as the author found relatives and interviewed them.

I liked it, a short read and only slightly too lengthy

CD recommended!

There’s nothing new under the sun.

Read about it years ago. I believe Heinlein included it as part of the "history" in Starship Troopers.

Athens is an example of a Democrat political machine "trying it in a small town."

My BIL, who teaches U.S. government history, had never heard of it, either. Which I couldn’t believe. He thought I was talking about something in Greece from hundreds of years ago.

My father told me about it years ago, and I’ve found very few others who have. It really needs to be taught.

I’m a history/government teacher.

Currently teaching 8th grade American History, but have taught Modern US History and US Government (both regular and AP).

I teach about all sorts of rebellions - Bacons, Shays, Whiskey, the Regulators, the Coal Wars (Blair Mountain) and the Battle of Athens.

Kids need some rebellious examples.
