I’m at Penn Station East Coast Subs in Nashville. Their system is down and there is a line of Millennials waiting for the system to come back up so they can place their orders. Luckily, cash is part of my EDC, so I skipped the line.

If the POS is down there's no way to take an order or pay for it, even with cash.

My boys don't carry cash, they have $20 in glovebox I put there in case of credit card problem and they need gas.

Same here.

Hate carrying cash.  Shit is nasty.  After you've worked in a bank....it will put you off on cash.

I haven't carried more than $2-3 in cash in the last 10 years.  The only reason i even carry that is to contribute to the powerball pool at work on the rare occasion someone organizes one.  I dont want to be the only guy there on monday because everyone else is a millionaire now.

The people that carry cash and the ones that don’t know how to use the ATM in a quick and efficient manner.

I’ve started carrying it more to tip rather than put it on the card. Trying to do my part by allowing the servers to tell Uncle Sam whatever they want to come tax time.

I'm a boomer and I don't use cash and haven't in 10 - 15 years. It used to piss my wife off back when McDonalds cokes were a $1 and I'd give them a CC for a $1.08 (With tax).

I was up in Cambridge, MA a few weeks ago visiting my son and we went to the one Square near Harvard. We decided to get something to drink and went in the one Asian restaurant. When I paid for our drinks, I used cash and got a reaction like I had tried to pay with beads and shiny rocks.

My son told me that I was probably the first person to pay for cash since the place opened.

Imagine going somewhere and waiting in line to order and pay...

Ordering ahead on the app; Skip the cash, skip the downed card system, skip the line.

I can think of about half a dozen times I showed up somewhere to pick up my order and a bunch of people waiting watched me stroll to the register and pick up my prepaid order.  Plus apps give you rewards and perks.

I have always carried $200 - $300 in cash, but from 1999 - 2022 I rarely spent any of it.  Sometimes going six months between ATM visits.  Instead I aggressively pursued miles/cash back.
In the last 18 months or so, more businesses are choosing to offer a cash discount. If the cash discount is 3% or more, then I use folding money.

Boomers use checks. GenX is actually the biggest cash carrying gen in my experience.

I generally don’t carry cash. Mostly because if I lose my wallet, not too big of a deal. Just cancel the credit cards. If I have cash, it may be taken.

Always keep a hundo in small bills for “walking around money”. Replenish as needed. This is part of basic preparedness. Particularly for buying fuel. But good for so many things!
