I picked up the Beretta SP1 SP 12g 30" on Monday, but I just had a chance to clean it and get the range box/bag organized. Not my picture below, but it looks the same. Our local club was damaged by fire a while back and they're getting ready to open in limited capacity in July. So, in the meantime we're traveling to different clubs and I'll be able to go for the first time this year. We've been busy af...

I know this is the biggest FUDD outbreak GD has seen in a while....y'all will just have to deal with it..

I belong to an awesome sporting clays club.. I suck at sporting clays.

Bought this last year and now suck a little less...picking up and additional 2-3 clays on a 25 round course.
Right tool for the job, and all that.

Last year I was invited to Garland Mountain range by a vendor and we had the best time shooting that round on the course. Since then, we all decided to make this a regular thing. I'm just getting my feet wet and it's a blast so far.

I ordered these. Come to find out, the SP takes different chokes depending on whether you have a mobile or optima series shotgun. The optima, my version, has threads 1/2" from the end. Carleson's customer service called and worked me through the process to make sure we got the right stuff for my gun. Good folks.

Say what?

I just checked my 3 sets of Briley’s.

One set is in 20 gauge for the Citori.

The other two sets are for my 2 Beretta’s:  a blue framed A400 and a 686, both in 12 gauge.  The Briley chokes all say “Optima”.

I am thinking I have NOT shot my A400 since I bought the Briley choke tube set.

I haven’t tried screwing in the 686 chokes into the A400, and vice versa.

Oh…Oh!  I hope I didn’t goof up.

Did they say anything about putting anti-seize on the choke tube threads before you screw them in?

In my case, I went to the Briley booth during the Grand in 2022 to get chokes for the 686 and the Citori.  I brought both shotguns with me….just to be sure.

Then I went back to the Grand in 2023 and got chokes for the A400.  I didn’t bring the A400 with me.  (Yikes!)

Both times, I kinda screwed myself.  A week before the Grand is the kids’s shoot.  That’s when Briley drops the prices on their chokes by 50% or it is a buy one get one half off kinda deal.

Careful OP…beretta SP’s are gateway guns. Things like this will start living in your safe and your bank account will be empty.
The gun that really started things for me was a a 20ga Beretta 686 SP1.  That gun killed a lifetime of game and clays and will last many generations.

One thing about busten clays, You are willing to go where ever there are clays to bust.   I shoot summer league at my home club and 2 over clubs when ever i can.   I know a number of guys who shoot 3 summer leagues.
Browning BT99 for trap.   16 ga. sxs for my sporting clays.  I suck at sporting clays.

Beautiful picture.

I rented a 686 SP in 20g for my first few range trips. It was a pleasure to shoot. My friend recently got a Browning Citori white lightning in 28g. He"s had heart surgery to repair damage from a heart attack so the lighter gauge is better for him. I went with 12g so I can cover all the bases I can with one gun. We'll see how that works out.

Optima and Optima HP chokes are different. The Optima is found in the older DT10 and 682 line, while the newer HP chokes are in the later model 694 and A400. Though they will thread in just fine, they are not comparable. Beretta says you can damage a barrel by using the wrong chokes.   At least this is stated for Beretta chokes. I don’t know about aftermarket chokes.

Hey, if you have a 525 Sporter I'm poorer than you!

Bought my 525 Field almost 20 years ago, first shotgun after 12 years overseas and I wanted what they'd call a cross-over now. I've had a lot of fun shooting clays with it, even if it's not optimal for the job. Turns out I'm not either, so we're a good match

I bought this to start my clay shooting “in style” as I’d always wanted an over and under. My old stand by is a BPS I’ve had forever.

I didn't own a shotgun until I bought this one last Monday. I've had several over the years but sold or gave them to family.

My favorite was an Ithaca 12g pump action. I never should have sold that one. I killed a bunch of ducks and geese with it.

Run whatcha got and have fun.

Mine is the Sporter, Peasant.
Seriously, looks just like yours.
Great gun, I’ve had to replace a few firing pins, but otherwise bulletproof.

Thought I’d upgrade to a 725. Big mistake. It started doubling after about 500 rds. Browning wouldn’t warranty it.
I replaced all the internals myself, and fixed it, but I still don’t trust it.
So back to the 525.
