It's a fantastic album.  A critical take on the vain throw away society we have become.

Jethro Tull had some amazing recording engineers working for them because lots of their old music has the spacial "magic" that opens a full sound stage in front of you.

I was very pleased to re-discover lots of my old favorite Tull songs were recorded incredibly well.

Tull was a great band. I hope Ian Anderson is teaching music. I would hate to see everything he brought to the music world lost over time. Love these little tid bits like Paul posted.

Metallica made a lot more money off  ..And Justice for All than Jethro Tull did with Crest of a Knave.

And they did get an Grammy the next year for One.

Not a huge MB fan (even though I worked for a radio station that played the hell out of them), but I’m glad folks are still out there playing that kind of music.

Respect.

When it comes to Rock and Rollers, Grace Slick had the right idea.
I saw all the bands and acts I needed to, when both the act and I were much younger.

There are a ton of bands with a bunch of old guys out there putting out great music.

Black Paisley - Set Me On Fire

FM - "Waiting On Love" - Official Music Video

George Lynch is nearly 70 and still kicking ass.

The End Machine - "Silent Winter" - Official Music Video

And in their acceptance speech they thanked Jethro Tull for not putting out an album that year. A sense of humor is a good thing.

When we went to see the Moody Blues, the drummer was celebrating his 70th birthday.

Lot more canes and walkers in the audience than I remember from when I attended concerts more frequently.

Not to shit on your Moody Blues thread, of which I love, but I saw Tull several times and they were incredible live.  The bass player

Had a college roommate with money and a TEAC reel to reel system.

He absolutely BLASTED Tull and King Crimson.

so, I'm good with the thread slides

One of my old bands covered Story in your eye as well and our bassist who was not particularly adept had to put a lot of time into that bass line. He eventually nailed it.

I saw the Moody Blues in the late 80's with my Dad at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, PA (I was attending Lehigh.) Very good show. My Dad referred to one of the band members as the Ancient Cosmic Rocker. Never heard a better description.

We've actually covered "Reeling In the Years", but our lead player doesn't want to put in the woodshed time to relearn it for our June show coming up.

If I had my way we'd add "Don't Fear The Reaper".  I'd like to sing that low harmony part which really helps MAKE that tune.

but without that spacy break in the middle

Good luck!

I read the horror stories of Genesis traveling with a pair of them. The second one was sent ahead to the next concert location so that it would be ready when the band arrived.

Tony Banks is a wizard that doesn't get the credit he deserves.

One of the best parts of living near Los Angeles is the music scene. I followed a couple of bands and one of the keyboard players' day job was buying old keyboards and restoring them for other tribute bands. I asked him about Mellotrons and he said he's worked on a couple but never flipped one so they're still out there somewhere.

As I understand the concept the Mellotron is 88 pieces of tape that slide past playback heads as the keyboard is operated so there's just a whole bunch of moving parts.

Thanks

I talked the band into adding it a couple of years ago, but we don't do it at the original speed.   We're too old to get coked up.

But it IS brisk and quite the challenge to play cleanly.

One of the happiest moments at our gigs is when our lead player kicks off that intro.

Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up cause we ge'in ready to ROCK.

I saw both bands live twice. They both had excellent shows and the Moody Blues were accompanied by the local orchestra the second time for the full effect.
