Fast forward to a few years ago, and I picked up a Kel-Tek PMR-30.

Like most Kel-Tek products, great concept, piss poor implementation.  Plastic flexes too much, the mag catch has too much slop for reliable feeding, and the feed ramp is rough plastic instead of something metal.   I couldn't get it to cycle a full mag reliably.

About a year ago, I ordered the M*Carbo upgrade kit, which addressed all those issues.  It takes a full tear down to install everything, and makes you realize how much of the gun's operations require a very slight nub of plastic on the frame for everything to work correctly.

Now, it will cycle a full mag reliably, IF you load it 100% perfect.  Insert a single round slightly off, and it will jam.

So, $350 for the gun (now priced at $370), plus another $140 for the upgrade kit (now priced at $250) for a finicky range toy that still feels like it's going to break in my hand.  For the $490 I put into it, mildly annoyed.  If I had to replace it for $620, well fuck that.

You should have form 1 that thing. As a pistol it is stupid, add a choate folding stock and a vertical fore grip it turns into a great shooter

MPA 30, M11 clone the one that uses Sten mags. Traded a knife I made for it. Very entertaining. I loved Miami Vice when I was younger and just had to have it. Plus Sten mags were dirt cheap.

NAA mini revolvers are not useless, the tec 9 I had to have is useless. It sucks as pistol, i had to work on it forever to get it to function properly. But it looks cool and libs are always trying to ban it.

I also have 4.75" 556mm AR that is fun but also useless.

One of these in .22lr. If I remember correctly, it was $89 sometime in the 80s. They go for like 2K now. I think I shot 2 rounds through it before I put in in the back of the safe

I still have a Jennings .22 I've had for many many years. I wouldn't say I had to have it, but it was dirt cheap. Total POS, which is common knowledge. The last time I shot it, it started double tapping, then the slide fell off. It won't be shot again.

Other than that, I've been pretty good about buying practical guns I actually have a use for.

Every useless weapon I sold, I now wish I didn't. Had a SPA-12 overfolder with the Ahnald hook traded it for a FNX-45 Tactical. Should have just coughed up the dough for the FNX and kept the SPAS. Cobray MAC-11, awesome range plinker and looked bad ass. Only sold it because I was dropping 9mm as a std round.

I learnt my lesson I'm keeping them all. The MSAR, The DEAGLE 50, the AKSU, hell even this blowback clusterfuck AR45.

Absolutely. It was a rusted ball in a friend's garage and he gave it to me for free as a project. I got it into functioning order and repro accessories, but haven't got to ordering ammo and test firing it.

A 1939 Smith & Wesson Light Rifle. 9mm for the British home guard. They ended up dumping the ones they bought in the Channel. S&W replaced them with revolvers. Few survived but you do see both Type 1 & 2’s on occasion. I’ve never fired it, they were known to fall apart. Genius!

Honestly- I don’t think those are useless at all.  I carried a 22 short version (so their smallest model) as a deep pocket gun for many years.

Had an old Sgt who told me two stories involving the same type of NAA mini revolvers- one when he lost his primary and that was all he had, second was of someone else being taken hostage and disarmed, but then using a mini revolver later when the bad guy fell asleep.

Also know of someone who was seriously wounded with one in a jailbreak, and eventually died.  Also a famous dash video exists of a SC Trooper, who was killed by a hit from one.  (Bad guy was a big fat guy who took 5 .357 hits- and lived).

So basically- I would never call them “useless”. (Even though mine will have the bullet tumbling by about 5 yards or less!). They work very well for their intended role…

Masterpiece Arms Defender. Ugghhh. Operated fine. But I swear, ALL of the recoil was felt through that trigger. HORRIBLE! I gave it to my kid. He probably doesn't shoot it either!

I have plenty of guns that I never shoot anymore (lever guns, SAAs, etc). But all are useful. Even the tiny NAA .22LR revolver has it's place. The MPA... not so much.
