There is a local guy that retired as an Army Lt. Colonel. He's the chair of the a county party and signs correspondence as LTC(R). Frankly, he's a dick head and pretty full of himself. Often indicates that he's the best helicopter pilot the Army ever had. Made a comment last week that, as a Lieutenant Colonel, he wasn't used to reacting to feedback from subordinates so we shouldn't take it personally when he doesn't listen to PCPs.
Wondering when it's appropriate to use the title. |

The only "real" restrictions are for civil service retirees , so they don't confuse their new job with their old.
If he's out playing the fool outside of the federal government, he's just being obnoxious, unless someone really wants to make a stink that it is "used in manner that may bring discredit to the Army." These things don't happen, or Allen West would have has Democrats suggesting legal action against him. The proper format should be "LTC (USA Retired). Not just "(R)," though. |

B) Pilots rarely know shit about fuck when it comes to actually leading people, which would explain his dumbass comments about receiving feedback. C) vets who act like this are generally never the type of person anyone actually liked serving with. ETA: He is welcome to use whatever former job bullshit title he wants, and I always make a point to call idiots like this by a nickname at best. |

Of course in Oregon, we have Solomon Yue as our national committee representative. Not too many states can claim that their main representative was a member of the Chinese Communist Party.

He showed up to a public function for his wife the other day and was in a button down and khakis with a blazer on. He never mentions what he does in conversation. Just another guy. |

My Battalion CO was a hell of a pilot and a great leader.
I had an MD do the "It's DR. Smith, I've earned it!" shit to me when I was just trying to get the paperwork done to get his car in for service. So I did the "then you may address me Specialist. I've earned it". Just because he pissed me off. I was pretty fresh out of the service then. I've mellowed since. |

I remember working for HP on a government contract, back in my I.T. days.
Most of us were veterans, retirees, all branches, etc... etc... But the main supervisor was a retired E-9 Master Gunnery Sergeant, USMC. Full of himself? Yup. Douchebaggery? Yup. #1 asshat of all asshats? Bingo! Seriously... Right hand to God... The guy would quite literally get right up into your face, damn near nose to nose, and bitch about something or a database process that was still running 5 minutes behind schedule! It took every ounce of strength not to take a swing and get fired, you know?  I mean, all of us were like, "whoa, whoa, whoa... M---- F----, stand down!! The uniform is OFF!!! WTF is wrong with you?"

Most often it is easy to detect who goes around patting themselves on the back making sure everyone knows their status, and then there are those who go about their ways quietly, accepting praise when offered. I know two, one of each kind, and the one who pats himself on the back is an ass and I try to avoid him Mr Sgt Major, the other, a Colonel, I called him Colonel out of respect for the man, not his title. |

Had a newer Air Medical pilot who was a Major in the Army. Wanted everyone to know and even wore his insignia on his flight suit and asked to be called Major.
One of the older, been there longer pilots, was a Colonel had enough of his crap, wore his insignia and demanded the other pilot call him Colonel. Ended quickly. |

lol, only once in my life have I run in to one of those tards.
Retired Marine Col or more likely Lt.Col. I wouldn’t ask and inflate his overinflated ego. He and his wife would go to this po dunk rural mountain bar every week. They’d sit at the bar for two hours and bang on their glasses for service/refills. It didn’t matter if the barmaid was obviously busy with another customer, they were the only ones that mattered. They’d have their 3-4 drinks then move to the dining room and order prime rib dinners. Same thing, demanding beck and call service, rude and condescending to servers and NEVER LEFT A TIP. You would think they’d figure it out that they might get great service if they tipped. I lol’d one day, a couple of the local bar flies that I knew were sitting at the bar with el colonel and his ugly wife sitting at the end of the bar. The locals were having a loud and pointed conversation about tipping and cheap fucks that don’t tip. Of course it had no effect. These fucks would continue to dine out and drink several days a week at the same places but would not tip. I guess retired colonels are broke? Funny, my mustang Lt. Col friend that I went to boot camp with that recently retired is doing quite well. |

I was recently at the American Legion for a blood drive. I was sitting there waiting for my wife to finish her donation.
A man walked up to me and introduce himself as Major So and So US Army Retired who said he did comms (I thought it was signals). Seemed strange way to start a conversation so I responded and I said I am rlex a retired NAVY O5 Surface Warfare. I think he was little taken aback that someone local might out rank him. I told him who I was and he said he knew my younger brother I returned to my hometown after being away for the last 40 years. I asked my younger brother about him and he told me that the Major was very proud of his military career. I asked my younger sister who is retired NAVY LCDR Nurse Corps and she said the Major is weird. I don’t introduce myself as CDR rlex especially at the Legion. I usually keep a low profile there and when I exchange service experience -my rank is usually the last thing I share. It was a strange experience because I can’t recall some ever introducing themselves to me like that. |
