That’s pretty standard after you kill a deer. I don’t personally eat the heart but I know plenty of people who do. Either way, you still have to cut it out with all the rest.
Story is dumb. Eta: A bunch of years ago we had some family friends out visiting us in WY and I’d just killed an antelope before they arrived. I said I was going to go out and “bleed it” before skinning and quartering it, and their ~12yo son wanted to go watch because he thought he’d like to start hunting. I slit this antelopes throat while it was hanging and I swear 5 gallons of blood immediately poured out on the dirt - it was impressive. That kid turned green and threw up in the bushes.
