The United Auto Workers union claimed victory in a closely watched election to represent 4,300 hourly workers at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee late Friday night, a major breakthrough in its effort to organize workers at non-union auto plants nationwide. |

My God did that smell good

Just more wage-price spiral inflation in the making (a la Ford).

Here for union hate. (and coke at lunch)

I thought Germans loved unions

The workers will regret this, more robotics in production area. Look for reduced content, higher retail prices for VW products. The UAW is a blood sucking leach.

I’m not sure how many ARFCOMers own a VW.
Interesting development with so many moving to Tennessee. Coincidence? |
|
My God did that smell good

I was a UAW employee as an English tutor at my university. I also drive a VW made in Mexico.
The UAW will scrape the bottom of the barrel to make sure their “average salary” is lower than you think. |

This will be the union's 2nd success with VW. The last time they have no problem closed the factory. How to say in German: Bye again ya lazy MFers!

Every time I got a raise, so did the union. Overall, i really didn't net much more than I did when I wasn't union. Only benefit was sort of a "protected" job, as long as the contract was in place. |

I liked VW better when they were cheating the EPA.

Now that the employees will race to reach the lowest common denominator, VW reliability will be even more elusive.

You should move to the right lane, where the rule of vehicle and traffic law still exists. You will not survive here. You are not a wolf, and the left lane is the land of wolves now.

So, will VW cars be even shittier than before?
Dollar for dollar I'd rather buy a fucking Kia. |

More money for the democRat slush fund

They should have asked Saturn workers in Tennessee how well that worked out for them.

Tennessee is a right to work state, employee's don't have to join the UAW at VW.

TN will slowly grow to have mini Detroits and the state will turn, I think. Maybe in 20-30 years.

Cue the heavy investment in robots and automation.
Fuck the uaw and most if not all labor unions. |

Oof….
First that have to resort to chasing customers in the Nissan/Mitsubishi/Stellantis shallow end of the pool, now the UAW. |

Vw hasn’t produced a good car since the mk2 era

VWs were overpriced already, now will be moreso.

Doesn't VW also own Porsche? If so, I'm surprised they haven't fucked up Porsche as well.

The only real reason why vehicles costs so much is solely because of the cost of labor. You know the big shots will keep prices of the products down only if the employees don’t get paid too much. You know that , right? |

Toyota already has expanded operations in Mexico in case workers at their TMM plants vote to go Democrat. I mean union. |

How does that work in an "at will" state?

UAW will keep voting until they get what they want. More likely it will be what they need instead and the plant closes.

VW broke ground on a new EV plant 15-20 miles from me. It was supposed to be the new Scout EV, a bastardized imitation of the old IH Scout, but all EV. EV’s sales have plummeted world wide. They’ve invested millions already and received millions in tax breaks to come to SC. Just waiting on the announcement now that the plant will no longer be an EV plant. I honestly thought they would pull the plug on the project, but tooling up for the next gen ICE makes more sense now. |

I can't speak for the private sector, but the FOP was the best thing we ever did at my old agency. It stopped many illegal labor practices and got some dumb ass Sheriffs I worked for to get their shit together. Now the private sector, I don't know if that is a good idea.

The biggest issue will be all the harassment to join, notes left on your vehicle, snide remarks, etc. When I was 18 and actually in a union I still caught shit for parking my non-union car in a "union" parking lot. I've since managed to stay non-union in a union heavy industry for almost 40 years and make way more $$$ than would've been possible if I was a union bro. Seen a bunch of union guys laid off over those decades and I'm still here. |
