The United Auto Workers union claimed victory in a closely watched election to represent 4,300 hourly workers at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee late Friday night, a major breakthrough in its effort to organize workers at non-union auto plants nationwide.

The workers will regret this, more robotics in production area. Look for reduced content, higher retail prices for VW products. The UAW is a blood sucking leach.

I’m not sure how many ARFCOMers own a VW.

Interesting development with so many moving to Tennessee.  Coincidence?

I was a UAW employee as an English tutor at my university. I also drive a VW made in Mexico.

The UAW will scrape the bottom of the barrel to make sure their “average salary” is lower than you think.

This will be the union's 2nd success with VW. The last time they have no problem closed the factory. How to say in German: Bye again ya lazy MFers!

They do, but most of their experience is worth German unions. German unions have the old craft guilds on their DNA, which highly prized skill and craftsmanship. VW in Germany has more of a partner relationship with the unions rather than adversarial.

American union DNA has a lot more socialism and organized crime in it. VW thinks they can partner with the UAW in Tennessee. They are in for a rude awakening.

Prediction: VW will be out of Tennessee within 5 years.

I was in a union once, part of USW. Those union dues add up. Every time I got a raise, so did the union. Overall, i really didn't net much more than I did when I wasn't union. Only benefit was sort of a "protected" job, as long as the contract was in place.

Now that the employees will race to reach the lowest common denominator, VW reliability will be even more elusive.

Yeah! How dare those guys want a better wage….dont they know they should sacrifice their livelihood for the big shots so they can give themselves larger record breaking bonuses? They shouldn’t look at other industries getting raises, including those at Arfcom. We need to be able to buy their products at a cheaper price so they must sacrifice for us. The only real reason why vehicles costs so much is solely because of the cost of labor. You know the big shots will keep prices of the products down only if the employees don’t get paid too much. You know that , right?

I sure hope they like watching more of their capacity shifted back down to Mexico. Just like Ford GM and Chrysler.

Toyota already has expanded operations in Mexico in case workers at their TMM plants vote to go Democrat. I mean union.

UAW will keep voting until they get what they want.  More likely it will be what they need instead and the plant closes.

You won't be required to join the union. But they'll make more than VW will pay you without the union and you'll be the first laid off. So you'll join.

Want a little support for that prediction?  VW broke ground on a new EV plant 15-20 miles from me.  It was supposed to be the new Scout EV, a bastardized imitation of the old IH Scout, but all EV.
EV’s sales have plummeted world wide.  They’ve invested millions already and received millions in tax breaks to come to SC.
Just waiting on the announcement now that the plant will no longer be an EV plant.  I honestly thought they would pull the plug on the project, but tooling up for the next gen ICE makes more sense now.

I can't speak for the private sector, but the FOP was the best thing we ever did at my old agency. It stopped many illegal labor practices and got some dumb ass Sheriffs I worked for to get their shit together. Now the private sector, I don't know if that is a good idea.

They scooped up all the tutors and teachers aides at my university. This was to lower the average wage of the UAW worker on-paper.

When I worked at a place that had a union you did not have to join. The company paid everyone the same and everyone had the same benefits. I did not pay union dues. I left for a higher paying non union job with more opportunity to advance.

Lot of places pay the same whether you join the union or not.

The biggest issue will be all the harassment to join, notes left on your vehicle, snide remarks, etc.

When I was 18 and actually in a union I still caught shit for parking my non-union car in a "union" parking lot.

I've since managed to stay non-union in a union heavy industry for almost 40 years and make way more $$$ than would've been possible if I was a union bro.  Seen a bunch of union guys laid off over those decades and I'm still here.

In Germany, auto workers get paid well and their companies still profit.................let the confusion begin.
