I’m a huge Oshi No Ko fan, anime and manga. My son heard Idol the other day and asked if he could read the manga. He stayed up until 2 reading it and then finished all 5 released volumes this morning.
He then asked if he could log onto my Hidive account to watch the show. We just finished the first episode and man that show is so freaking good. This was my second time watching the anime It’s so much better than the manga and hits so much harder. Oshi No popup store in Osaka. On a side note I booked another trip to Japan next March. Used some miles and got business class on Singapore Airlines. Can’t wait!  Attached File |

So, just got back from seeing Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Knapsack Kid. Not gonna lie, even though I've read the LN series twice and knew what was coming, the Kaede stuff still kills me. I think the only complaint I'd have is that the simple art style doesn't translate well to a movie screen. Be aware, if you haven't seen it and are planning too, there is an after credit scene that will set up the basis for season 2. They confirm production at the end.
Also, there is a brief video with Kaito Ishikawa (Sakuta) and Asami Seto (Mai) at the beginning which was kinda nice. |

It wouldn't have mattered anyway, only one showing within day trip distance of the rig I'm on, was while I was working. The same theatre is showing the dub tonight. It's not while I'm on shift but I'd have to scramble my ass to show up to the theatre in dirty oil field FRs and probably be too tires to stay awake. I don't know how it's decided what gets shown and how many showings but only one showing each for the sub and dub seems odd to me unless it's a big special event like the SEED Freedom premiers in LA and NYC. |

Currently watching Frieren, who kinda reminds me of my wife. Hard to wake up, loves to sleep, walk and read. Loves to find new books at random places and generally doesn't care about anything. |

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
I binge watched all 28 episodes in 4 days and I have to say that was pretty damn good… even with it, IMO, somewhat trailing off at the end. I really enjoyed the anime’s take on demons. These days it’s so rare, damn near unheard of, to have an anime where all the demons are actually demons. No gray area here. Just ruthless irredeemable humanoid monsters. I loved the idea that demons use phrases like “mommy, no” even though they have no idea what a mommy even is and only use it to trick humans. That one demon girl, IIRC, actually thought the words were magic to stop humans from killing demons. I enjoyed Frieren and Stark, however I really didn’t like Fern. I could type up an essay on why, but I’ll keep it short and say she was annoying and she committed the gravest sin a major character can make: she was boring. Fern’s personality kinda reminded me of the sister in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Her shit personality as such that she walked into the office and the secretary immediately says…  And this is applicable to Fern as well.   If there is a S2, I fear I might have to consider bumping Frieren up to the 5% of anime I deem worthy of watching weekly. Kill off Fern and replace her with the green-haired mage and I definitely would.  Attached File |

Yeah, I liked what Kraft said about the bandits. I'd like to see somebody in Frieren's party ask him about the statue that looked like him. I'd also like to know how old the guy really is. But, going back to Fern/Uhre: When you killed Lord Lugner in a 1V1 as a 16 year old, what's the point when you're a year or two stronger of killing some human wimp who Methode accurately describes as having no fighting ability? Fern left that kid totally depleted of mana so that no other mage could sense her, which was good enough to sell the idea that she was dead. In hindsight, fucking with Party IV was a bad idea. Wirbel and Ubel were killers, Wirbel's companions were just plain not in the same league as Ubel's companions. You didn't need hindsight to see that fucking with Party II might not be a great idea. The old fart grew up 70 years ago hearing heroic tales of Frieren, and he knew damn well she was the leader of Party II. Letting the other guy kill the orange haired girl was the only chance of success there. |

For a Japanese anime it certainly has a Germanic slant.
Most of the of characters, places, and even the written words are clearly German or Dutch. Heck, Frieren translates to cold or freezing. And on another note, watched the first Konosuba last night, wasn’t really impressed. It was disjointed, hard to follow, and really not funny or entertaining. Rather disappointing. |
